VINTAGE POWER STATION AMMETER 0 - 200 AMPS AC for primary panel mounting
Here is an ammeter right out of the past. Probably dates back to the early days of AC power distribution. It apparently came out of a power station. Possibly a hydro plant in New England. I have two of these meters and this auction is for ONE of them. The difference between them is the label beneath the meter face. The one showing first in the auction is marked"Cabot Greenfield No. 3 line. The other one in the last picture is labeled"General Electric. These meters are so old that they were not made in China. They are mounted by the two current carrying threaded posts and would have been secured to a heavy non conducting meter and switch panel. A third meter that came with the ammeters is a 0- 6000 volt meter in the same style case. This signifies that the line voltage was most likely 4800 volts. Rather low by the standards of today ... morebut typical back then. These are close to being museum pieces and will be packed for soft and safe transit. Not sure if there is a way to lock the movement but will check. Possibly a small piece of masking tape on the pointer can be used to keep the movement from swinging. It has a smooth and somewhat damped motion now. Shorting the terminals will likely not make much difference. Please include a note within a day if you win and tell me which meter you want. If you want the pair(it will go as combined S&H) at the same final price say so and I will arrange to list the other one when you are on line. I used to have the voltmeter set up so it was visible through the wall of our power shack and generator hut with 4800 volts calibrated to our 240 volt service. That meter will be listed if our son will let me sell it. The three would make a nice addition to a power engineer's den.

Up for offer with no reserve is a Hewlett Packard 412A tube tester and DC amplifier. Unit's power light turned on when I bought it from a TV store that went out of business a few years ago. But I never tested it beyond that as wouldn't know where to start. The power light does not come on now. The tester is in very good cosmetic condition but the leather strap does show some aging. This listing is for a working vintage(1950's) W. M. Welch Scientific D.C. Ammeter in a hinged and latched oak case with a leather handle. It was produced in 1955 and this unit has only improved with age. The wood has darkened a bit with age but there are only a few minor dings in the finish and the leather handle is dark and pliable. The dial face is white with a mirror strip for accurate reading and mounted in a bake-lite frame. The production card. Thumb-tacked to the inside of the door, has yellowed but there is no sign of rust or corrosion on any of the mountings, latch or hinges. An elegant specimen of workmanship and history. The hinged wood cover had a crack that extends the entire length of the cover. The crack has started where the calibration document was screwed into the inside case. In the 1930s. It looks like the calibration technician. Signed Browning. Realized the error of using too large of a screw and then switched to small screw for the bottom part of the label. The meter appears to be working. But the meter needle does touch the DC MILLI-AMMPERE paper labeling which is slightly buckled. The paper labeling needs to be pressed flat.

I brought this home from an estate and slowly powered it up with a variac as it has vacuum tubes in it. Both sides power up with power on lights working. The DC voltage side works on low voltage batteries and such i tested with. I didn't get the ohms to read correctly and the ohm adjustment nob turns very hard. The ohms do ground down to 0 when you touch the feed wires together. I couldn't get the AC meter to read voltages. I ran my variac to the leads and it wouldn't register. Cosmetically pretty nice.All the other dials and switches feel good and click sharply into position.
