Authentic Large Rare Antique Iron Metal Timber / Lumber Wagon - Great Yard Art
This no reserve auction is for a genuine very large(15'L x 6'W x 3'H) antique all original horse drawn timber wagon. It was manufactured to haul felled trees or cut logs from the forest to the mill here in the Flagstaff area of Northern Arizona sometime around the turn of the century. It is in very good overall condition and nearly complete as all the connecting parts are metal. The three foot high iron wheels still turn as does the axle on the front end. Wooden support beams front and rear do show signs of age while all the exposed iron has acquired a very nice natural patina. TEXAS(Sabine County) Hemphill, the county seat of Sabine County, is at the junction of State highways 87 and 184, thirty miles southeast of Nacogdoches in central Sabine County. The original county seat of Sabine County was Milam, in the northern portion of the county, but voters in 1858 approved a resolution to move the county seat to a more central site. E. P. Antique 1894-1911 Lumber/Coal Company Accounts Receivable/Payable Ledger This antique ledger is that of a business that seems to have sold lumber and coal located in Darby. Pennsylvania. For the most part, the ledger contains the accounts receivable/payable records of the time period beginning 1900 through 1911 with a record of rent income received in the back of the book beginning in 1894. Most of the entries are done in beautiful calligraphy of this time period. The records show freight shipments/goods received. The cost of different wood/timber including items such as Hemlock, Mining Planks and more. Also documented are business expenses and the payment made to various companies for services rendered. It also contains payroll information for employees. Hours worked, amount paid, less expenses noted, such as“store” or“rent” ~ They must ... morehave had some type of living quarters/rooms at or near the work location as well as some type of store ~ all so interesting! Further in the back of the book. There is a section for the rent account with records as early as 1894. The book measures 9” wide and is 14” in height. The first few pages contains a section broken down alphabetically and the remainder of the book are ledger pages. All of which have writing. I see no blank pages. The cover is in extremely poor condition ~ it was at one time taped on the interior. The leather, suede is in a state of deterioration. The pages of course are browning with age and there are some tears but for the most part, the interior is in very good vintage condition. Don’t hesitate to send an email if I have missed anything. 1912~ Palmdale Lumber Company Letter Sent to a man in Mojave. California From Palmdale. California Some fold marks and yellowing of paper due to age. Sold as is. In found condition. History Palmenthal. As Palmdale was previously called, was established as a village in 1886 by westward travelers from the American Midwest, mostly of German and Swiss descent. These travelers mistook the local Joshua Trees for Palm Trees and so called their settlement after them. The village was officially established upon the arrival of a post office on June 17, 1888. In the 1890s many families continued to migrate to Palmenthal and nearby Harold to grow grain and fruit. However. Most of these settlers were unfamiliar with farming in a desert climate, so when the drought years occurred, most abandoned their settlement. By 1899, only one family was left in the ... moreoriginal village. The rest of the settlers, including the post office, moved closer to the Southern Pacific railroad tracks. This new community was renamed Palmdale and was located where the present day civic center is. A railroad station was built along the tracks there. This railroad was operated by Southern Pacific and traveled between Los Angeles and San Francisco. There was also the Wells Fargo stagecoach line that ran between San Francisco and New Orleans that stopped there as well. The only remaining pieces of evidence of the original settlements of Palmenthal and Harold are the old cemetery located on the northeast corner of Avenue S and 20th Street East, and the old schoolhouse now relocated at McAdam Park. As the population of Palmdale began to increase after relocation. Water became scarce, until in 1914 when the California– Los Angeles Aqueduct system was completed. During the 1910s, crops of apples, pears, and alfalfa became plentiful. In 1915. Palmdale’s first newspaper, the Palmdale Post, was published.
