Here's an envelope with a torn three cents stamp on it. The cover area has a postmark which is torn also. But you can see the O. for Ohio, and it's likely Toledo. It's addressed to Eugene Smith Esq. N.Y. There is an enclosed letter. One page of writing on a single sheet of folded paper, written by Theodore Keeler. Although it's hard to read his surname there, he writes his name and address on the other side of the paper in a clearer script. The dateline is Toledo. O. March 27th, 1867. Some abstracts: that you were around to the house a few evenings ago. I am sorry that I could not be there to welcome you. you knew that I was going west that night of our party. I should have come down to see you before starting but. You will see by the heading of this what kind of business I am in. This is a lot of 4 original items from the estate of William Peter. Who was an 1880's lumber baron in Michigan. The original letter with letterhead states at top they have Gang-Sawed Lumber, Salt, Etc. with Mills in Bay City and Columbiaville, Michigan and Yards in Toledo, Ohio. This letter we believe was written from the Bay City Office to William Peter at his Columbiaville Office. The letter is dated Jan. 24, 1881. It is signed by C.H. Pmeroy. It is 10 1/2 by 8 inches and has normal folds without any tears. The body of the letter is about some lumber that a Cleveland business man who said that Peter told him he could have the lumber piles. The William Peter mansion is still standing in Columbiaville Michigan and is a bed and breakfast now. Also included are 3 checks signed by William Peter. 1. Check is on Merchants Manufacturers National ... moreBank of Detroit and is dated Feb 2, 1883. It is for William Woods and is for $261.62. It is endorsed on back and has bank stamps. 2. Check is from Second National Bank of Detroit and is dated May 2nd, 1881. Check made out to Frund Brothers for $4.16. Endorsed on back with 2 bank stamps. 3. 3rd check has William Peter name preprinted on it and Columbiaville pre printed. It is dated Mar 13, 1896 and from Detroit National Bank for $3.60 for Starrat& McVittie. There is punch thru dollar signs around 3 on check. It is a nice advertising premium from The Keystone Lumber Co in Lancaster PA = it appears to be made of gutta percha- we at first thought it was made of celluloid but then we did some further research and it appears that it is gutta percha- not many of these survived as it was a very fragile material made of early rubber. It most likely is not celluloid as it would be too fragile and the only vesta we saw were metal covered in a celluloid liner. It measures approx 2.75" long and 1 3/16" wide and 6/16" in depth. You are bidding on one lot of one old coal hammer. It has embossing on both sides that is worn and just a bit hard to read. One side says Clark Lbr Co Herington Kansas. The other side says Phone 395 Bldg Material And Coal. It measures about 13” total length and the head is about 5.25” across. One end of the head is pointed and the other is flat. The picture is a print that was copyrighted by famous Thos. Moran N. A. of the Tower Rocks at Yellowstone. In the lower right hand corner of the print it has imprinted on it the exact location where it was done and a date of 1905. I'm not really sure how valuable the print alone might be. Wood is dried to 6% moisture content before stabilizing. It is then put in the tank and vacuum is created to remove air from the tank and wood for better penetration of resin. After vacuum process is complete. Resin is pumped into the tank and 90 pounds air pressure is applied. The time under pressure is dependent on the density of the wood.
