No markings of a company name that I see on it. It has some dents/dings/scratches on the extinguisher with some lacquer coming off of the tin in some areas(due to its age) This is a nice vintage item and still displays well. We do know of lavishly decorated examples in Tudor England that sported mottoes and rhymes. And in America, surviving inventories from 1634 tell us that bellows were included among listings of pots, trivets, and other fireplace equipment. In ancient man discovered the secret of making fire. He also found that a small gust of wind helped the burning process. quite nicely. And eventually he developed a primitive form of bellows. Experts speculate that this early prototype was probably a small animal skin sewn to form a bag. But whatever it and subsequent devices looked like. They would have been modeled on the same basic concept: a closed container that could collect ... moreair, then expel it through a narrow valve. Most of the fireplace bellows made of wood. Leather, and brass that we find in antiques shops today are rarely earlier than 18th century, and most are no older than the 19th. As antiques dealer Amy Finkel confirms, Old bellows certainly aren't easy to come by, especially ones in good condition. After awhile, when the leather dried out and split, and the nails rusted or fell out, making the piece useless, it was often discarded.

Up for auction is this antique fire rattle made in the 19th century that is in very good physical condition after all these years and working order. The wood fire rattle measures 10 1/2 wide by 4 1/4" at the highest with a handle that is 4 3/4" high by 1 1/2" thick. The fire rattle was used by firefighters in the woods to notify the other firefighters as to their location before telephones and walkie-talkies. Swinging the handle around in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation causes an extremely loud clicking noise that can be heard for miles. Weighs just over 1 lbs. before packaging. I have not seen another complete set like this with 8 globes and the original wood carrying case. The red globes have no markings on them so I am not sure if they were made by Red Comet. Stempel, Shur-Stop, or. Based on the ... morebottom rounded shape, I am guessing that these were made by Red Comet- but that is only a guess. Buyer should determine the manufacturer based on their own research and expertise. I have been told that these DO NOT CONTAIN carbon tetrachloride. But do contain either salt water or CM-7 fluid. Carbon tetrachloride was normally a blue or reddish colored liquid when it was used in fire grenades. These grenades have a clear liquid in them. The glass at the very bottom of each of these grenades is clear and allows you to see the clear liquid that is in them(see pic# 2) All 8 globe grenades are in Excellent Vintage condition with very minimal scrapes/scuffs on them. Each does have a slightly etched"ring" on them where they were cradled in the rack in the box. They DO NOT have the color loss that is normally found on globes of this age. EXCELLENT. DEEP red coloring on each globe(note that the the very small end of each globe is clear) All 8 globes are still full. The wood case is in overall Good Vintage condition. The front boards appear to be hand-planed. The design alone the center and the feet appear to be hand-carved. The screen has the following measurements: Height: 33" Width: 22 5/8" Depth: 9 3/4" at the feet, This is in good. Antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. There are some cracks in the legs and feet, but the screen is still structurally sound. There is some wobble between the top portion and the feet.
