This is a vintage Peavey No. 228 Cant Hook logging tool. The metal is marked"2- 3/8 PEAVEY NO. 228" on one side and"THE PEAVEY MFG. OAKLAND. MAINE" on the other. Stamped B 1 above the hook joint. The condition of the metal is a rusty, but the hook swings freely and all pieces are secure and firm. The hook has an open width of around 17" and closed it is 3.5" Beautiful working rusty condition.

Fresh off the farm sale that I attended on Whidbey Island and priced 2 sell. The log roller or whatever you may want to call it stands 53" tall and appears to be all original except for the bolt. The handle looks to have age and IT'S AS STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW AND SOLID. Some loss of wood to the very top[ last photo] but no splits. The item has the manufactures name as" Warren Axe& Tool Co. imprinted into the metal. It was a little rusty so took most of it off but a real cleaning would be in order unless it's going to the jobsite. The bolt as I said looks to be a replacement and in the same vein if you win you will have to be able to reinstall the bolt as I will remove the existing bolt to package it for proper shipment. 42" Cant log roller handle w/ vintage hook
You are bidding on a 42" Cant log roller. Handle is unused. But has been shed kept for around 15 yrs. Hook is used. But in very good condition, besides the surface rust. The hook is 12 inches long. Still moves, and comes with a shim to adjust fit. These two items were not bought together or did not come together. So some adjustments will have to be made for a perfect fit. Logger Tools Handmade Iron Cant Hook + Log Adjuster no hndls + Dividers 2 Sawset
Here is a lot of logging tools that I collected over the years. Should be useable, or nice decor for a cabin or camp. There are 2 iron pieces that appear to be blacksmith made- the Cant Hook at the bottom of the first pic, and the Twisted Iron Spike above that. The Cant Hook doesn't have the handle or the small rounded D collar that goes around the working end. The twisted spike, as I was told, was put on a straight handle and used to adjust logs in place by striking it into the end of the log. Ithink it avoids spiking logs along their length and damaging wood intended to be lumber or veneer. May be handy for log construction, too- no handle for that either. These two pieces may date from the 1800's or possibly earlier, no marks of any kind. Next there is a set of Wooden Dividers, about 19" long, metal points. Unsure of original ... morepurpose, scribing for log building? Lightweight but solid fine-grained wood. Next are two types of saw set, both unmarked. Pics are lightened a bit to show details. This Vintage Warren Axe& Tool Co. Peavey. Cant Hook was made in Warren Pennsylvania. William Sager founded the company in 1893. It remained in business until 1950 when it was sold to Collins& Co. Collins continued to make tools at the plant until 1958 when they sold the equipment and property. It iis 58" long with a 44" wood handle and from the collar to the tip of the pike is 14" The pike 4 sided and is is 1 1/2" in diameter at the collar connection. The pike is 4 1/2" long. The pike fits tightly as does the handle. The hook is 11" long from the bolt connection to the point. The point is 3 1/2" long. The tapered handle is 2 1/2" in diameter where it connects to the collar and has a few little scratches and dents typical of a used wooden handled logging tool. There is a screw holding it on that ... moreis shown in the photos. The collar has the number 202 in raised lettering and is shown. I believe the handle is the original but can't be 100% sure. I bought this in Bovey Minnesota 4 years ago. I put a coat of Boiled Linseed oil on it at that time. It has a great look. I suggest this remain retired in a Logging Collection. These are usually found weather damaged. Very worn and rusty with cracked wood and loose handle and pike. and this one isn't.
