CHATILLION PRODUCE SCALE DOUBLE SIDED OLD USED use it or for parts
This is a double sided scale by Chatillon Co. One side of the glass is broken but this scale still works. I would get this for parts though. The side piece of metal is missing the other half is there. It is VERY rusted on both sides. This was used on a farm so was out in the weather. It has the hook to put the counter weight and it has the part you hang it up with. One needle on one side is bent but still works. Like I said this would be a parts piece. From 1949. Early 1950s JACOBS BROS. CO. DETECTO SCALES INC. DETECTO HANGING SCALE WITH SCOOP 20 lb. capacity This is in Very Good Used Condition. Considering it is from at least 1949. If you look at the close-up photo of the face of the scale, there is a City of Newark(NJ) Dept. of Weights and Measurements sticker that shows the scale was inspected in 1949. The sticker shows a hole punched in the 1949 spot, and you can see where it says 1950, 1951 and 1952 looking at the 4th photo. The scale does not have a glass cover. But I believe it originally came that way because of the sticker being placed on the face of the scale. The sticker would not have been able to be put there if there was glass. The face of the scale does have two areas where the white has been scratched off and some of the numbers and lines have worn off- SEE PHOTOS. The face ... moreand back do show normal wear also. The scale appears to be operating properly. And seems to be accurate. The scoop is in very good condition also. The face of the scale measures 8 1/2" in diameter. The scoop measures 16" x 13" x 6 1/2" When hanging, the whole thing measures 31" from top to bottom of the scoop. Please. read item description thoroughly. examine all photos carefully. The Hanson Scale Company was created in Chicago in 1888 and was sold several times through the years. So I have no idea the age of this scale. The label behind the stationary needle states"HANSON Household Scale- Not Legal In Trade- Made In Chicago USA- Capacity 25 LBS- By 1 OZ" I think everything is original on it with the exception of two silver star shaped screws on the base. They may or may not be replacements, I cannot be sure. There is an adjustment knob on the back to reset the scale to zero when you move it and you are ready to weigh your item. Overall condition I would consider is very good. I have two pics of what little wear that is noticeable. On the back side the left corner of the table is bent out very little and it looks like the center of the table is bowed up a little but this may be the way that it suppose to be because of other pics on eBay that I looked at. Up for your consideration is this vintage mid 20th century Chatillon hanging basket style produce scale model# 027/A. This scale was removed from a former apple orchard in New England. They scale shell is made of red and black plastic which encases a steel scale mechanism and face. The needle of the scale is also steel and has some wear and patina. The basket is made of galvanized steel and is suspended by oxidized steel chains. This scale does function but we recommend recalibrating as it had been sitting for some 15 years. Unused. This is the largest Detecto hanging scale I've ever come across and seems to be quite rare. The body is cast iron. It is 10 inches in diameter and the capacity is listed as 60 lbs. x 1oz increments right on the face(see pic) This scale weighs over 7 pounds and is in quite nice shape. There is some surface rust on the lower part of the band that retains the glass(see pic) Scale made in Brooklyn NY. Works very smoothly and is adjustable for zero. No chain or scoop included in this auction. You get the pictured face and not the $5 bill that is in the pictures for size reference.
