I love this! I can't find one like it online. But it's a very neat design. It's wooden and there is salmon taper line and also backing line. I have no idea if this is full or not and I'm not going to unroll it to find it. It's really more of a neat collectible to display. It even has the original box. Vintage Gladding Intrepid Gear Fly Reel
This is a very nice Gladding Intrepid Gear Fly"Multiplier" fly reel in good used condition. English-made and very well known maker across the pond. With spare spool. This is an absolutely great and versitile reel for heavy trout. Bass, steelhead or salmon. A 1/2 gear ratio. 3.5 inch by 1 inch reel size, so it'll hold plenty of line and pull it in fast. Feel free to google"English multiplier fly reels" for background on these reel types. I first came across them in England in the 80's and fell in love with them. The simple reason is that these reels have the ability to haul in copious yards of line in a very short time and with very little effort. If you've ever had a decent sized trout or bass on the line and it began to swim toward you, then you know how important it is to get that line in fast. I had a trout ... morereverse and swim between my legs once on the Little Gunpowder and it took my slack line about 70 yards in the other direction before I could turn around and tighten up again! NO More! I've collected these reels for a number of years and am selling four others, all English-made and in great shape, in other auctions. The larger multipliers in my other auctions are great for Steelhead and Salmon, as well, because of their size, width, and abilities to take line weights from 5 up to 9 or 10. I use a narrow Gladding Intrepid GearFly for 5/6 weights on the Upper Delaware very happily on Orvis"Trout, Henry's Fork, and Limestone Special" rods. They'll work nicely on any rod up to a 10 weight, but at 10 you'll have to cut back on the backing. Good luck and happy fishing. It's almost Spring.
