1951 Martin D28 D 28 Brazilian Rosewood
Swore this one would never leave. But medical issues force me to let her go. Sweet old fairly unmolested Brazilian Rosewood Martin D28 from 1951 that I've owned for at least 15 years now. The neck was reset before I got it but I had the bridge replaced because the original had been shaved down to half it's original thickness. The replacement is flawless except this model should have a through saddle to be vintage correct, a fairly simple modification should one wish to have it done. The bridge plate was repaired using domed maple slugs and new Ebony pins were installed. The pickguard had suffered from the usual shrinkage issue so it was removed and reset using 3M adhesive sheet. It does not match the original footprint anymore but it is the original guard. It also does not want to sit quite flat but again, it's original. There ... morewas a headstock break, many years before I became the owner, that appears to have been repaired well as it has not moved in the 15 years that I've owned it. The break did not go through the faceplate. There are several pickguard cracks but they are all stable and there is a small side crack of less than two inches in the area of rubbed off finish shown in one of the photos, but it too seems stable. There is one area on the back up near the headblock that shows small cracking as well that may need to be cleated. It hasn't shown any signs of movement either. The original finish shows signs of wear and there are several areas on the top and back, about the size of a quarter, that seem to have reacted to something at one time. The finish is still there it just looks a little different. The original Kluson waffle backs are in excellent shape. The fretboard is nice with only a little wear on the upper frets at the high E string, but it does not affect playability. The action is nice and low but there is room to go lower if the new owner so chooses. Tonally this guitar is rich and well balanced, without the typical overpowering bass. The Martin Shenandoah D-2832 is a dreadnought acoustic guitar with a natural finish solid spruce top. Rosewood back and sides, and the resonance which vintage spruce plus rosewood tonewoods produce. While not the most ornate dreadnought Martin makes, this Shenandoah with its Style D-28 tortoise pick guard, multi-stripe bound body and rosette, and 14/20-fret ebonized rosewood fingerboard with pearl dots is a striking instrument—especially in this glossy natural finish with the colorful patterned backstripe. The ebonized rosewood bridge has a bone saddle and white black-dot pins, and the rosewood headstock and enclosed Martin tuners finish the picture of a quality guitar. This includes, of course, the C. The playability and sound verify the quality promised by the name. It plays with as much power as you will ever get from an acoustic dreadnought. This is a lightly used pair of Matrix ISO heat-treated and hard-anodized tubular rims in 28 hole. This auction is for the pair of rims only. This is a rare pair of rims! Made in the USA. The ISO is labelled at 285 grams each which is extremly light for a vintage aero cross-section rim. I built these for USCF time trails in the early'80's and rode them four(4) races as we tend to like criteriums here. The rims are straight. Round, have smooth sidewalls with virtually no brake wear, and come with remnants of Clement cement. The Matrix rims need neither ferrules or rim washers. Scratches, insertion marks on the shank, the plating is missing at the tip, and the shank is slightly out of round and has a small split. Collins College Atlas c1851-55. 28 of 33 coloured outline maps by J. Archer
The College Atlas for Schools and Families with an Alphabetical Index of the Latitudes and Longitudes of 30.000 places" published by H.G. Collins. Date not stated but c 1851-55 determined by contents as shown below. The maps, which are coloured in outline, were drawn by Joshua Archer, Pentonville who was active 1833-66. This is a broken copy with all double page maps loose and containing 28 of the original 33 maps. The scan shows the contents page with maps which are present having a tick at the left edge and missing maps having a cross to the right edge. Each map is double page size 14.3" x 10.5" 36.5 x 26.5 cm. All include some comparative scales at one edge, e.g. Holland with Wales, Turkey with England, Australia with Europe. Several of the maps have a short split in the fold at one or both ends, some have finger marking ... morein the margins, some have marked backs but maps generally in Good mcondition. The 48 page index is present as is the list of mountains of the world with their heights. The highest mountain is shown as Dhawalaghiri in the Himalayas at 26,862 feet so clearly the height and name of Mount Everest had not been established when this atlas was published. This dates the atlas prior to 1856 whilst the fact that Victoria in Australia is shown as a state dates it to 1851 or after. Maps suitable for mounting and framing. Note: My camera has made the images darker than reality so I have shown a scan of the Italy map which more accurately portrays the condition of the maps. Please ask if further information needed.

Used Shimano 600 tri-color rear hub. The band came off but you can still see the type face on the dust cap. 8 speed cassette. 9 speed should also fit on it. I like 8 speed just cuz the chains are cheaper. Moving up to higher spoke count for commuting.
