The major producer of handsaws in the 18 th and most of the 19 th century was Sheffield. England. Mainly because of their fine steel and the craftsmanship of the skilled craftsmen that made them, and because, England had a political and economic lock on steel making in the colonies which kept American saw makers out of production until far after the Revolutionary War. Henry Disston began his career as an American saw maker in 1840 after immigrating from England in 1833. In 1850 Disston founded the company that would become the world largest saw maker. The Keystone Saw Works. Five years later Disston was producing the first crucible saw steel ever made in the United States. ... moreHis competitors were still buying good steel from Britain while he was making his own. Using his own specification for his own needs Henry constructed a special rolling mill exclusively for saw blades. In September 1872 Disston started the foundation of what was to become the largest saw manufacturing facility in the world. Disston Saw Works in Philadelphia. Only a year and a half after seeing his products receive the highest honors at the great Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876. Henry Disston suffered a stroke in 1877 and died the next year. Vintage Disston D-8 Rip Saw 26" 5-1/2 point WW2 ERA 1940s
H. Disston model D-8 and it is a skew back saw. The medallion is steel. Disston U. S. A. 1940-47) with the keystone. The blade is 26" long, it's 2 1/4" at the toe and 6" at the heel. I count 5-1/2 tpi or ppi and it is stamped with a number 5-1/2 at the heel. Very straight blade with some discoloration. Looks like a 1 degree kink about 3/4 of the way down. I'm sure it could be removed easily. There are spots of minor pin-point pitting on the blade, nothing major. The etching on the blade is clear and readable, a little weak in spots. The teeth are still very sharp. I do not know what type of wood the handle is but it is nice. It looks like someone striped it and sanded it but never re-finished it. It is in excellent shape, no chips, cracks or repairs. Great handle that you can finish how ever you want. I don't think ... moreit would take too much to restore this saw. Otherwise, it's a great display piece or gift for the tool collector, handyman, carpenter or wood worker. Etched but black worn off at base, it says NYCRR, regular saw etch is good. Wood handle is solid and tool is in good usable condition. An unusual one for the collector. I believe this is a D-115 pre-1928 saw with wood handle has carving. First made 1915.Disston Victory hand saw.Not sure wood type. I have seen these styles used rosewood but this is a lighter wood with less grain? Hope pics show this.Apple? Not real sure what the wood is. All brass medallion and screws.The medallion reads"H.Disston& Sons Philda. Disston Turning Tool The tool is 16 7/16 inches long over all and the blade is 6 1/4 inches. The handle has" DISSTON" then a Keystone impression and" U.S.A. below that. The butt end of the handle has red paint traveling about two inches up the shaft. The base of the blade has in a semi-circle" DISSTON" then another Keystone emblem and" U.S.A. below. Have not been able to determine the year it was produced.

Vintage Henery Disston & Sons D-23 Crosscut Saw - 7ppi
You are looking at a vintage D-23 26" Crosscut saw made in the USA by Henry Disston& Sons. This saw is marked on the blade. But the mark is a bit weak. You can faintly see it in the picture. It is 26" long and has 7ppi. The handle is a dark wood but I do not know what type. It has wheat carvings and a brass medallion. All the screws are in the handle and there are no chips or cracks. A previous owner painted a small"SW" on the handle. The teeth are sharp and the saw is in pretty good condition with some light oxidation. It works well. Nice for the collector or the user. Vintage Henry Disston& Sons Hand Saw 28" with 5 1/2 teeth per inch. You can still make out the etching if you hold the saw in the proper light. It says: Extra Henry Disston& Sons Keystone Saw Works London 12 Spring Warranted Refined(the last three words are very faint I'm not 100% sure. I had to hold in the sun and use a magnifying glass) The saw appears to be in very good shape for its age. I'm not sure if this one was ever sharped, there is a lot of metal below the TPI mark. ULTRA RARE Vintage Disston K-8 Hand Saw Skewback 26 inch 10PPI STRAIGHT USEABLE
H. Disston& Sons model K-8 KEYSTONE; 1953? This model is a skew back saw. The medallion is Warranted Superior with the Disston Keystone in the center. The blade is 26" long. It's 1 3/4" at the toe and 5 1/2" at the heel. I count 10 tpi or ppi and it is not stamped with a number at the heel. Laser straight blade with minor discoloration. There is no rust or pitting on the blade. The etch on the blade is still sharp and clear. The teeth are still sharp. The handle is solid and tight, it is nice, very dark, 99.9% perfect, no cracks, chips or repairs. Superb handle with nice wood grain showing. All of the original finish remains in the handle. I don't think it would take much at all to fully restore this saw, it is useable now. Otherwise, it's a great display piece or gift for the tool collector, handyman, carpenter ... moreor wood worker. VINTAGE DISSTON KEYSTONE K - 6 CHALLENGER HAND SAW 8ppi CROSSCUT
This Keystone K6 Challenger is a skew back saw and was manufactured by Disston U.S.A. Henry Disston& Sons) from 1933 to 1953. The blade is 26" long. It's 2" at the toe and 6 1/4" at the heel. I count 8 tpi or ppi and it is stamped with a number 8 at the heel. Fairly straight blade with some discoloration. There is no rust and no pitting on the blade and there are no broken teeth. The speedboat etching on the blade is visible. The teeth are still pretty sharp. I do not know what type of wood the handle is but it is in great shape. The handle is wheat-carved and in excellent condition, only 1 small crack on the lowest nut. No chips or repairs. Nice handle. It does have some dings and scratches that come from use and age. Much of the original finish remains in the handle. I don't think it would take too much to restore ... morethis saw. AWESOME HENRY DISSTON& SON HAND SAW 1865-71 Here is a historically important Henry Disston& Son large hand saw from just after the Civil War. 1865-71. It was at this time that Henry Disston’s Son, Hamilton, joined the family business. He had worked in the factory before the war starting at the bottom and working his way up learning all phases of saw production. After 1871 the business changed its name to Disston& Sons as other brothers joined the business. This is a clean and straight rip saw with 5 PPI in fine condition. It is a large saw measuring 30 1/8" long overall. The blade measures 26 1/16" long and 6 1/2" wide in front of the handle. This is a clean saw with no pitting or rust and with a full NIB up front. The teeth are large and all there and look to be freshly sharpened. It has a clear etch matching the ... moreDisston& Son name on the medallion. The aged original wood handle has a great patina to it. It has the original brass split nuts and sunk in medallion. With split screws that are in fine condition. Vintage H. Disston & Sons D-23 Lightweight 8ppi 26" Hand Saw USEABLE CONDITION
Henry Disston& Sons. The model is the D-23 LIGHTWEIGHT and it is a straight back saw. The medallion(Disston USA) and saw nuts are all steel or nickel plated brass. The blade is 26' long. It's 1-1/2" at the toe and about 6-1/4" at the heel. I count 8 tpi or ppi and it is stamped with a number 8 at the heel. Very straight blade with minimal discoloration. There is no rust and very small areas of minor, insignificant pitting on the blade. The etching on the blade is visible, a little weak in spots. The teeth are still sharp. I do not know what type of wood the handle is but it is in good condition. The handle is wheat-carved and has no chips, cracks or repairs. 85% of the top horn is missing, it's been rounded off nicely. Other than that, there are no issues. Very nice H. Disston& Sons model No. 7 and it is a straight back saw. The nib has broken off. The medallion is early Disston& Sons PHILADA with the keystone. The blade is 26-1/2" long. It's 2-1/4" wide at the toe and 6-3/4" at the heel. I count 6-1/2 tpi or ppi and it is stamped with a number 6-1/2 at the heel. Very straight blade with some discoloration. I see pin-point pitting on the blade. The etch on the blade is weak but you can see the keystone, name and model No. 7. The teeth are still sharp. The wood the handle is nice, very dark with a little silver paint spilled on it. It is the early"lamb's tongue" handle. There is only one crack, under the medallion. No chips or repairs. Nice handle. I count 5-1/2 tpi or ppi and it is stamped with a number 5-1/2 at the heel. Very straight blade with some discoloration. There is no rust and no pitting on the blade. There are no broken teeth. The etching on the blade is weak but you can see"KEYSTONE K3 MADE BY DISSTON" The teeth are still sharp. I do not know what type of wood the handle is but it is very nice and shows great wood grain. The handle has 1 minor chip on the underside of the upper horn, other than that, perfect, no cracks or repairs. Very nice ... morehandle. It does have some dings and scratches that come from use and age. Most of the original finish remains in the handle. I don't think it would take much at all to fully restore this saw; it is useable as is. Otherwise, it's a great display piece or gift for the tool collector, handyman, carpenter or wood worker. Useable H. Disston& Sons model D-8 skewback rip saw. The hardware and medallion are brass. DISSTON* PHILA* made between 1917 and 1928. The blade is a full 26 inches long. It's 1 1/2" at the toe and 6" at the heel. I count 8 tpi or ppi and it is stamped with a number 6 at the heel and a number 7 is stamped under the handle. Super straight blade with some discoloration. There is no rust on the blade however, there are tiny spots of pin-point pitting that would not affect the performance. The etching on the blade is visible. The teeth are still sharp. Antique / Vintage Disston 2 Man Saw Crosscut Timber W/ Penn. Saw Corp Handles
Up for auction is a nice Disston 2 man saw in very good condition. It has a good straight blade with no kinks. Dents or missing teeth. It is 72" long and 6 3/4" wide. There is a Disston etching on the blade but it was to faint to show up in the pics. The blade was cleaned of any loose rust and has a nice smooth finish. A light coat of oiled was applied. It has matching Penn. Saw Corp. handles that are in excellent condition with no cracks or damage of any kind. The only information I could find on the Penn. Saw Corp. was that they were bought out by Henry Disston in 1892. A great looking decorator or good solid user. US shipments only. Thanks for looking.

Found this at an old man's tool sale. It's in fabulous shape for its age. The saw blade is very straight as seen. The Disston D8 labeling is still quite visible and the blade is still sharp.
