The blade is clean and straight. There are a couple of small spots of insignificant. Tiny pin-point rust pitting(pictured) the handle is just about perfect. The etch is pretty strong still. For sale is a nice old working tape measure from Disston It could use a cleaning because its been used over the years but there are no issues that I can tell. For your consideration. Here is another wonderful old saw begging to be restored. It is"all there" all original and is in excellent, straight condition. If I had the time and patience, I would bring it back to life, but my job is to pass on the projects to you! Vintage Disston D-23 Hand Saw Antique D23 Carpentry Tool 26" Blade
This auction is for one vintage Disston D-23 hand saw. I purchased this saw from a local estate. They said that the saw was from the 1930's. I know very little about antique tools. Cosmetically. The wooden handle has finish wear and nicks from use(see pictures) The blade has rust. There is cursive writing on the blade that is very faint, as well as a keystone with what looks to be scales inside of it. I could not get the writing on the blade to show up in pictures. The first is a crosscut hand saw manufactured by H Disston& Sons in Philadelphia. PA. The teeth seem to be in very good condition and are VERY sharp. The handle is a very unique piece with a Celtic Knot design. Even with some internet research I was hard pressed to find another like it. I was unable to correctly identify the medallion in the saw handle but I would guess based on research that these would have been manufactured post WW II. The second saw is a curved typed blade that has no identifying labels. It is used for more easily cutting curved wood. VINTAGE WW2 ERA (1940-47) HENRY DISSTON & SONS 22" D-23 GREAT ETCH 10ppi
Henry Disston& Sons model D-23 Lightweight: straight back panel saw. The brass medallion dates this saw between 1940 and 1947. The blade is 22" long. It's 1" at the toe and 5" at the heel. I count 10 tpi or ppi and it is stamped with a number 10(the 1 and partial 0) at the heel. Very straight blade with some discoloration. There is no pitting or rust on the blade. There is one half broken tooth in the middle, directly under the H in Henry Disston's signature. The etching on the blade is clear and strong. The teeth are still sharp. I believe the handle is apple and it is nice, very nice. The handle is wheat-carved and has no chips, cracks or repairs. If not sharpened and put to use, this saw is a great display piece or gift for the tool collector, handyman, carpenter or wood worker. Vintage(1940-1947) WW2 era Henry Disston& Sons out of Philadelphia. The model is D-23. The blade is a full 26" long. It's 1 1/2" at the toe and 5 1/2" at the heel. I count 5 1/2 tpi or ppi and it is stamped with a number at the heel. The etch is good on the blade. The teeth are still sharp. the handle is Custom Detailed it is nice and dark. Nice handle.it's a great display piece or gift for the tool collector, handyman, carpenter or wood worker. Its That Time Of Year Again. Vintage H Disston& Sons 1888-1896 Thumbhole Hand Saw 5 1/2 TPI#10 Overview: Amazing Condition Vintage H Disston& Sons Saw. Aprox 126 YEARS OLD.WOW. No breaks or repairs in the beautiful Applewood handle. There is a very small tight crack in the bottom horn. Which I had to LOOK to find. There is a small chip missing from it too, but it minimal. Blade is all original, looks to never been sharpened. Blade is STRAIGHT at an arrow. Wide blade throughout with the skewback profile. I feel this saw is in amazing condition for its age. I have sold several thumbhole saws over the years and none come close to this one in age and condition, and its the great condition for its age that sets this one apart form the others. If you want to fully restore one, this would be the one. First model with slotted flat screwdriver ... morenuts, rather than the previous Split Nuts NO MISSING TEETH.From my personal collection. This Saw Will Ship Fully Insured* Blade: Blade is Very Straight. As straight as they come. Especially for its age. There is a beaitiful uniform patina throughout. More of a heavy scale than pitting. Its That Time Of Year Again. Vintage Disston USA Model T-1. Newer No Medallion Style Aluminum Saw Nut Overview: Nice Vintage Disston Saw Model T-1. This is the newer non-medallion saw. Blade is pretty straight. Logo is faded from use. Patina throughout. Thinner and Narrower than the older models. Probably about the time when many companies went to more economy over quality. Though the Disston Brand always spoke of quality, this was just a sign of the times to come. Blade: Blade is pretty straight. Patina throughout. Blade logo is faint. But can be seen. These newer models had more of an ink printing logo, rather than the embossed stamped logo's of years gone by. These faded much more easily. NO teeth missing. Pretty sharp. Handle: Handle is in great condition with no cracks or breaks anywhere. Excellent Condition and is of Disston's ... morenewer design. Nice grain. Just slightly dirty looking is all from use. Medallion: No Medallion. These newer models simply had aluminum saw nuts. Rather than the saw nuts and medallion. This is even newer than the other 1950's + Disston I have for sale. You are bidding on a Vintage DISSTON PHILA Hand Saw. This Disston Hand Saw is 26" long and the blade is 21 1/2" long and 8 teeth per inch. The Handle has a wheat design on the front side of the handle and all the original bolts and Disston bolt is there. This Disstion Saw is in fair condition with some nicks.
