Vintage CD V-717 Survey Meter Radiation Nuclear fallout monitoring stations
Here we have a CD V-717 Survey Meter for use in Nuclear fallout monitoring stations On Circuit check the meter is reading OK Batteries included. Operates from sized D Batteries. I have pictured the insides to show no corrosion and in a nice clean condition. The CD V-717 was designed for use in fallout monitoring stations. The CD V-717 has the exact same operating characteristics as the but with an added feature. The CD V-717 has a removable bottom with a 25 foot extension cable. The detector element(ion-chamber) is mounted inside the removable bottom. This allows for the placement of the detector element outside of the shelter area while the metering section of the metering unit would remain inside of the shelter area connected to the detector with the 25 foot cable. But realized this isn't that size. So untested, but looks really clean. Just scuff marks/paint loss on the outer case probably from rubbing around in a vehicle. Nice shiny yellow paint on the aluminum case. Latches work properly. Don't know what it does, but I suppose it detects radiation. Fortunately for us. Single phase, type CS, 15 amps, 120 volts. The meter has been mounted to a wood(possibly walnut) base and has been made into a lamp. I'm unsure if the meter is connected or not- I couldn't detect any movement when the lamp was turned on, but the bulb I used was low wattage. The total measurements of the lamp is about 26" tall from the top of the shade to the bottom of the base. The base is 9.5" x 12" x 11" Shade not included. The lens is in very good condition, it is a Nikkor-S Auto 1.4 50mm, serial number 343724. It comes with a lens filter, Yashica 52 1A and a Nikkorex light meter which has a serial number of 723986. The camera shows minimal use with it firing correctly at all settings. The lens has very smooth rotation, I do not see any scratches or fungus. The viewfinder is also crystal clear with no issues that I can see. The inside of the camera looks very clean with no issues that I can see. There is a service sticker inside from Old Town Photo that says 07582 1-18-80. It comes with what I believe is its original case and strap. Case is in great condition with minimal wear, the strap has some fraying but is still complete. I inherited this from my photographer uncle upon his death twenty years ago. I have never used it. It has been in a plastic bag in my wife's hope chest for those 20 years. It may need a cleaning.
