Starr Labs Vintage Z-Tar ZTAR VRX Soft Case Power Supply/Midi Control Box
Its time for me to let go. I bought this ZTAR sometime in the 90's but really haven't used it in years. Harvey Starr still makes incredible things and this one holds up. At one time I asked him about updating it and I think it may be possible. But even that was a long time ago so best to assume that what you see is what you get. Anyway, I checked it out recently and everything still works, all the keys and pads work. Still, because of the complexity of this instrument, I am selling it as is. So here is the thing, the old ZTAR is quite quirky and the string triggers do work, but they never seemed that great to me. I think Starr changed to a different design at a later date. But all the hammer on and pull off controls are there and that is what I used mostly just using the left hand to trigger and the right hand for the joystick. It ... moretakes some decent time to configure the ZTAR the way it will work for'you' so please understand this is not a toy, but something that is still quite sophisticated in its midi implementation and controls. The joystick control is super awesome if you program your synth to respond to it. Included are the ZTAR, the manual, the padded gig bag, and the midi box with power supply, it has rack a removable mount. I will also throw in 2 midi cables. I am starting this at only $470 with no reserve. It should go to a good home, but you should probably consider yourself a midi'tweaker' or at least ok with programming the unit to work with the synths/soft synths you want to use. Or maybe you just consider yourself adventurous! I guarantee that it will not be DOA but you need to be able to read a manual to make it work, as I haven't gotten back into it for many years and probably can't help you. Atari 130XE Computer Includes Power Supply The computer is in overall decent shape. But is obviously used and could probably us a little cleaning. See pictures. The only major flaw is a large scratch in the plastic near the nameplate(see picture) I tested everything I could and it appears to be fully functional. All the keys on the keyboard work. Although the spacebar is a little stiff. I ran the built in self-test(memory, audio-visual, keyboard) and they all passed. I wrote a short program in BASIC, and it worked.
