Rare 1927 Brewster Ideal Chocolate Lititz PA Tin Dutch Cocoa Wilbur Read Info
This 6 1/4" X 3 1/2" X 2 1/3" Ideal Cocoa Tin is rare because it is the Brewster-Ideal Chocolate Company. Lititz, Pennsylvania(later becoming Wilbur Chocolate) It was this name at this plant only in 1927(give or take a few months) In 1927 Brewster bought Ideal and in 1928 it merged with Wilbur- Suchard. I've seen other cans ALMOST like this but they were Ideal or Wilbur. Look at the pictures- the can has some scattered spots where the painted coating is off on the one main side- the other main side has a more solid spot between the Dutch girl and windmill. Sides are good. Top is original. In the pictures, the top looks fairly shiny, but it is really a solid rusty brown. FYI the Wilbur Chocolate plant is in Lancaster County, not far from my location. Vintage Houbigant Le Parfum Ideal bottle by Baccarat, 1/4 oz. size, empty.
Houbigant introduced Le Parfum ideal in 1900. According to my research. This 2.25 inch tall bottle would correspond to the 1/4 oz. size. The bottle design for Le Parfum Ideal was by Baccarat. But this bottle I have here is unsigned. There are no chips. Cracks, or scratches except for one very fine scratch inside the lip of the bottle, which you can see in the 9th photo if you look at the upper right of the bottle. The scratch is about 1/8th of an inch long. The embossed gold label depicts a woman throwing her head back in ecstasy as she sniffs a flower held in her left hand. The label has minor signs of wear. But the text and picture are still easy to make out. Houbigant later introduced a fragrance in the 1970s that was simply called Ideal(not Le Parfum Ideal) It came in a bottle that was shaped very similarly to this one. But it was a completely ... moredifferent fragrance and the label was nothing like this one. Please see my other listings for more new and used fragrances and collectible vintage bottles. This is a perfume flaconette for American Ideal. An early California Perfume Company fragrance. It stands 2.75 inches tall. It is a rare item from the mid-1920s to early 1930s that was made before California Perfume Company changed its name to Avon. The website I've linked to below was created by a distinguished and very knowledgeable California Perfume Company collector. Here. You'll see several matching examples of this flaconette. He spells it as"falconette, so I've used both spellings in the subject line of my eBay listing to improve search results. You can also find a picture of this flaconette in"Bud Hastin's Avon Collectors' Encyclopedia. a highly respected resource for serious collectors of items made by Avon, including early items that were made back when the company was still known as the California ... morePerfume Company. There are no holes. Chips, or cracks in the flaconette. The only damage I can detect in the glass is a very small area at the top of the stopper that looks a bit cloudy and doesn't feel as smooth as the surrounding area. It's not very easy to see, but if you zoom in photo#4, you'll be able to make it out. I don't know if this abrasion occurred with normal handling or if the abrasion was simply an area that wasn't properly polished at the factory. The brass cap has some tarnish on it. But the clarity and condition of the glass bottle is outstanding. The faceted ground-glass stopper is especially lovely. It has eight sides. The front side and back side each have a finely detailed leaf. The flaconette was empty but dirty when I found it. I have cleaned the glass as thoroughly as I could prior to this photo session. Description: This auction is for a lovely Shelley England Fine Bone Ideal China creamer. In the Autumn Leaves pattern(No, 25-0168) RD 272101. The creamer measures approximately 3 5/8 inches tall. 2 5/8 inches across the rim, 5 inches wide from end of spout to end of handle, 2 3/8 inches across the bottom base. The creamer is marked with the green Shelley England mark on the bottom that should date it to between 1925-1940. It also has REG. No. 771299 in green on the bottom, IDEAL CHINA No. 25-0168 in red. The creamer is in good condition for it's old age, has no repairs. I have examined it under black light. There is an indentation along the bottom rim, what feels like a small fleabite next to it. You cannot see it, I have taken photos for you to view(6,7, 8) There is what feels, looks like a small scratch on the inside of the spout(1/8 ... moreinch) it did not show up under the black light, as a hairline would(see photo#5) There is also the normal light scratching from wear over the years.
