This AC regulator was a popular accessory item with radios owners. Overall condition is very good- no rust or scratches to the metal and no chips on the white ceramic parts. The black control around the top rotates as it should. When tested with 120 VAC in, the no load output was 117 VAC. Two Mullard 90C1 voltage regulator discharge tubes The Mullard 90C1 is a voltage regulator discharge tube. The tube will strike at 115 Volts and will regulate to 90 Volts for currents of between 1 and 40 mA. The specifications show a regulation of 14 Volts for this range of currents. This would be a wide tolerance by any standard. It is probable that this was intended to supply something like an oscillator that required sensibly constant current. Special quality versions were made and given the type designation M8206 on a B7G base and M8207 with flying leads. The thin glass tube envelope is 17 mm in diameter. This regulator has an internal resistance that ranges from 10 to 30 ohm, as you can see from the test pictures below, it does not have alot of effect on a 60 watt light bulb. It has a maximum rating of 150 watts, and likely has more effect on'regulating' a device in that power range. We tried a 25 watt bulb and the min-max settings showed no noticable difference. As I said it works as designed, and as a 1920 design it is pretty clever.
