This is a used Cenco Central Scientific Co Variac AutoTransformer Variable Power Supply. I actually do not know if this is indeed made by Cenco as it has no markings or labels but the tag on the cord I can just make out"CEN" and I obtained it with a large lot of mostly Cenco Powerstat transformers. It has a molded grey plastic case that has a few minor scratches. The 3-prong grounded power cord is in great shape. The front has an on-off switch. Variable level control, 3-prong grounded outlet and the fuse. I do not know the what output amperage this is but the fuse that in it is rated at 1 amp. I tested the output voltage levels and it starts at about 15 volts and ranges up to about 117 volts. The same thing happened on the Right side supply test except I did not hear a click. Now the Right side supplies output is stuck at 38V on the 20V scale and and stuck at 59V on the 40V scale. Vintage Eimer & Amend Fisher Scientific variable power supply
Please see images. The item is a variable AC power supply 4- 24V and internally has a 4 ohms rheostat that allows to vary the output power in a crude manner. The voltage is controlled in increments of 4V; this was of course long before the semiconductor era.There is no label or indication on the device to suggest the date of manufacture. From the way the internal cables are tied together( with string) and the rubber/ cloth insulation it certainly predates the usage of plastics as insulation. The item works and the only issue I see is that one cable has its rubber insulation beginning to crack. Not obviously, but visible at a careful inspection; I would consider this normal after what is probably more than 60 years, more likely 70. Also the banana terminals while still attached securely to the cables show signs of wear. The box is what I believe ... moreto be steel, there is no sign of corrosion or damage inside or outside. The rheostat is probably in need of some cleaning but still varies the resistance as it should. After I verified there is no short anywhere I plugged in the device and it performs as designed, I could measure the prescribed voltages. I have no idea what could it be used for; probably some lab experiment where there was a need to vary the power. The output voltage indeed varies from 4V to a little over 24V. vintage Eico 556 analog multimeter and 1050 variable DC power supply 12v
This is a neat vintage Eico DC variable power supply/ battery charger model 1050 and a nice analog multimeter model 556. Power Supply has two settings. 6v 10 amp and 12v 6 amp continuous(6v 20 amp 12v 12 amp intermittent) There is a knob where you can adjust the voltage for each range and a dc voltmeter and amp meter to monitor the output. It was putting out voltage on the 12v setting, I didn't notice the meter indicate anything on the 6v setting, so that might need to be looked at. This is very old school probably from the 50's. you can find the manual online and if memory serves correctly it uses selenium rectifiers instead of solid state bridge rectifiers, I think the voltage adjust is an auto-transformer. Has a longer cord someone spliced on, see pics. The multimeter comes with the manual, it is untested and missing the screws ... morethat hold the back on. Sold as-is, no returns.
