This power supply, as seen, has two separate meters on the front panel for checking voltage and current output adjustments. The photos show an output of 143V into a 500-ohm load. There is no change in voltage when the load is removed. Or when the AC is varied, so this unit is regulating. The problem is that the voltage cannot be adjusted above 143V. Included in this auction is an original service manual, in which are instructions for troubleshooting low voltage. I inspected the inside of the unit carefully and did not find, or smell, any burned or overheated components. Sold as is.

Last time it was NIST calibrated was in 99- but these power supplies are 100% reliable constant duty always on supplies. No fans to go bad but instead massive aluminum heat fins in the back. This is not your modern high frequency switching power supply. It a solid old skool power supply originally designed for audio and especially electron tube(vacuum tube) circuit design testing. Four screws originally held the front panel onto the power supply. But one of these is missing. It's dusty and has a number of scratches, dings, scrapes, and minor corrosion as is to be expected of an item of this age and utility. There are two cables coming out of the power supply. One is a conventional, three-prong, grounded plug. The other is a 9-pin connector bearing only 6 pins. Wires going to these pins are green, bule, orange, black, white, and red. The transformer has the words"Power One" in raised letters on the back. There is a quality control sticker from Arrakis Systems on the back. A stamp inside the power supply reads"FEB 04 1985. This Home Made Variable 12 Volt Power Supply came from the estate of an Electronic Engineer. I know nothing about it other than it seems to work as the pictures show on my digital meter. The front meter does not work. Or I can't get it to. There is an Auto switch that I do not know what it does. It has six large diodes I believe from the pictures. There is some circuit boarding etc. inside. The transformer is large. There are no cables with this. But the power cord is excellent! This is a Staco E3000 Variable AC/DC Power Supply. It has two standard grounded outlets. One is 120 volt AC and the other is 0-120 volt AC with 1.5 amp maximum output. There are two sets of banana plugs on the bottom. The yellow is for 0-14 volts AC with a 3 amp max. The black and red banana plugs are for 0-14 volts DC with 2.5 amp maximum output. This unit has two circuit breakers. One for high and one for low voltage. Only one set of variable outputs can be used at one time. The dial changes the value on all outputs at the same time. This unit has a power light and an on/off switch which is switched by a small key. The key is included. I have tested the unit on all outputs and can see no issues. Here's a great way to take some of the load off of your transformer for accessories such as building illumination. Signals, and other operating accessories. This is a solid unit(net weight 12½-lbs) with on/off toggle switch, pilot light, double banana plug jack, and precision Simpson meter. The heart of this unit is a genuine Staco Energy 221-B variable transformer(retail alone is $120 at Allied Electronics) It is wired in tandem with another fixed transformer to limit the output to 31 volts AC.
