This is an interesting type of 2 Phase stepper motor which is much less common than the typical type. It consists of a forcer and platen. The forcer is equivalent to the coils and poles of a traditional stepper motor and when energized they align with the respective poles of the platen. As such this motor can be driven with a typical stepper motor drive in full. Half, or microstep modes. Simple 4 wire type with orange and green being one pole, red and white the other. This type of motor has both advantages and disadvantages. The linear nature of the motor eliminates the need to add ball screws and gears to achieve linear motion, together with their associated backlash.
