It has not been used for about 15-20 years though and I no longer have use for i t. Some dirt collected over the years of storage but I have managed to clean most of it off. The press was just tested and it worked the same as the last time I used it. The upper heating plate is clean(see picture) as is the lower pressure pad. Kelsey Excelsior Model C 3x5 Letterpress Press fully restored & 100% print ready
My best guess on the original manufacture date of this press is pre-1928. This press has been completely disassembled; the only exception to this is the ink table operating dog was not removed from the carriage during the restoration process. All painted parts were stripped down to the metal and re-finished with 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of color. The raised type in the castings have been accented with black paint. All non-painted parts(pivoting rods. Ink arms, etc. were cleaned thoroughly. The fasteners in the platen back have been replaced with stainless steel cap head screws. Nuts& washers. The set screws in the chase have been replaced with new stainless steel hex drive screws. The chase latch spring is new. A custom made extension has been added to the chase latch to prevent the spring from damaging the finish on the press. ... moreThe roller hook springs, retaining washer and pins are all new and made of stainless steel. I fabricated new grippers for this press. This press has a new ink table machined out of plate steel. The platen has been balanced to the chase bed with.030" packing under the tympan and is included with the press. The additional sheets of press packing included will allow you to change the packing under the tympan to adjust the print impression height as you change stock caliper. This is much easier than re-balancing the platen each time you change stock caliper. The press is currently packed to print on.012" stock. For example. If you wanted to print on.007" stock, you would add a sheet of.005" packing under the tympan. As with any press, the condition of your type and blocks and the uniformity of the type height will ultimately determine the quality of the printed image. The type used to print the proof card is new. Rollers have been recovered with new rubber on original journal. Trucks are also original. Rollers have only been used on this press(to verify press balance and roller quality) to print the card in the photo gallery for this item. The press has been

Vintage steam gauge marked Lonergan Phila. It seems like the case is made of cast iron and it has a spiral copper tube attached with a valve. The face and dial are simple. It is also marked vacuum press. The zero is not centered at the top; it is slightly to the left. I don't know the significancy of this- if any- but thought I would mention it.
