1883-1983 Milnor Centennial No. Dak. Pin Back Brooch
A Centennial Celebration festival pin from Milnor North Dakota. Close to 3" H. Its 1 5/8" dia. and measuring the bow that has the pin back behind it it's about 1 1/2" a magnet sticks fast to every part of this unusual pin back but I'd sort of a brooch too, NOTE: I took the 1st picture with a flash, thats why its looks so bright, the other photos are much closer to how it really looks. It's gold washed except of course the tin button and it's lightweight. No wear on the gold wash and the pin on the back has a piece that turns to keep it secure{ they hoped! Minnesota, who served as auditor for Olmsted County for several years(one of 4 in the state at that time) then married and relocated with her husband(John J. Allen) to Pine River, Minnesota. Her collection has extensive postcards from Chatfield, Rochester, and Pine River, with numerous other towns in areas nearby to these towns. I will be posting many of her postcards over the coming two months. Here is John J. Allen's obituary: OBITUARY John J. Allen. Son of H. C. and Georgia Allen, was born in Hartford, N. Y. October 27, 1S77, where he received his early education and grew to young manhood. He worked with the Harttord Drug Company for eight years before coming west in 1903, when he settled at Dodge Center, Minn. working for some time in the state hospital at Rochester. He attended Drews School of Pharmacy in Minneapolis, graduating in 1904, and coming to Pine River in June of that year. Arriving here, he purchased the Geary-Hill building located on the present White Eagle station site, and established a drug store which later was moved into the premises now occup
