Antique Telephone Field Tester, Couch & Seeley, Boston, MA, Oak Case
I'm told this is a Field Tester for telephones. It's made by Couch& Seeley Co of Boston Mass. It comes in a Quartersawn oak case that appears all original with original hardware. The inside cover has been varnished in past years but that is the only change. The handheld phone has a bakelite handle and hearing cup. The horn shaped speaker appears to be aluminum and the rest is a chromed metal. On the center of the handle is a lever that can be squeezed for some type of contact. It has 4 braided wires leading back to the box and there is an inner box that the wires appear to feed into. I have no clue as to what this does or how it works. It does seem to be complete and nothing that I can see is broken other than the old wires that have separated in different area's. Just a beautiful old piece for the telephone collector
