Located in Chicago, applied for the patent on this device in 1915. The patent was awarded in 1918. The technical drawings for the patent. Shown in the auction photos, contain the signature of William S. Darley. JPG files of these drawings will be supplied to the buyer, as well as two, high quality prints of each on 8.5" x 11" acid-free, watermarked paper. For an engineering or underground utilities business. This device, along with properly framed patent drawings, would make a very nice reception area display. The original 1915 patent application depicted a buzzer arrangement connected in series with batteries and the hidden underground conductor. However. This is a Plain Old Telephone Service(POTS) Time Domain Reflectometer(TDR) It can measure cable lengths down to a couple of feet(verified) and as long as 18000 feet(unable to verify as I do not have 6 miles of wire handy) The TDR plot window is set up for characterizing very long cables(1000-18000 feet) The plot's features allow you to discern water in the line. Breaks, shorts, etc(see photos of the reference card) If you need to measure short cables you go to another window which just reports the cable length as a number. Cable capacitance is user selectable so you are not limited to the telecom standards. It also performs resistance, short circuit, and voltage checks and can be configured to produce an automated report of the line quality. Ultra rare 1973 Bleeper Electronic Golfball set. Handheld battery powered locator unit would be used to locate radio signal off of the 2 special radio golf balls. Original box, instruction manual, and both 2 balls and locator are included. No corrosion inside of the battery compartment and looks like it was never used. We put a 9 volt battery(not included) into the unit and you can hear a static sound. When pointed towards the golf balls the static gets quieter but does not beep. I am guessing that the company installed batteries in the golfballs but since they are sealed and date back to the early 70s, the batteries inside the balls are most likely dead.
