This is the entire AC/DC electronics course from Heathkit. The original parts and instructions are there as well as the Design Experimenter. Heathkit GRsd-91 AM Shortwave 4 Tube Radio Receiver Vintage Antique
Here is a very nice vintage Heathkit AM-Shortwave 4 band 4 tube radio. Model GR-91 which is about 50 or so years old. This nice set is built on a circuit board which is mounted to a stamped steel chassis, and is powered by a power transformer. While the radio does turn on and power up, it does make plenty of audio noise, but I have ben unable to receive any broadcasts on any band. I believe the noise is RF noise as the audio amplifiers would probably not create any noise themselves. So, this nice set probably needs to be checked and serviced by one knowledgeable in shortwave radios. I suspect replacing all the capacitors with newer ones would solve the problem, along with a check of the tubes and then a realignment. Features of this great set include on the front panel beginning at the left: volume control with on-off switch; BFO control ... moreand switch; Mode switch with positions of AM. Standby and CW; the the Band switch which has bands A, is the broadcast band covering 550 KHZ to 1500 KHZ; B, covering 1.5 KHZ to 4.0 KHZ; C, covering 4.0 MHZ to 10 MHZ; and D, covering 9.5 to 30 MHZ. The next control to the right is the antenna trimmer. Then to the far right, bottom, is the bandspread control, and just above it is the main tuning control. Above this control is the tuning meter, and I believe it works because when the radio is turned on and gets warmed up, the needle deflects to the left side, and seems to deviate when trying to tune stations. Both the dial and meter are illuminated. On the back of the receiver are the antenna inputs. For 300 ohm, and for 75 ohm, and to the right is the ANL switch. To the right of this switch is the 1/4 inch headphone jack. This is a very heavy receiver as everything about it is stamped steel. Including the cabinet. The plastic widow for the dial is in very good condition with no flaws that I can see. The weight of this set is about 13.5 pounds. I sold this calibrator once already. The gentlemen that purchased it returned it. He informed me that there were screws missing and he couldn't get any output. When I listed it the 1st time I stated I wasn't sure if the build was complete, the reason being is, I could plainly see( see photos) that there were screws missing in the securing bands around some of the caps. Also the top cover of the unit was unopened, still in the package it was originally shipped in from the Heathkit factory. I'm listing it as" parts or not working" the price will reflect just that. Vintage Heathkit TT-1 Tube Tester Project
I have an older Heathkit TT-1 Tube Tester for sale. The case of the tester is in somewhat poor shape. Overall it's a desirable unit that would make a nice project. Case is coming apart on the edge. Hinges are loose. Please look at the closeup photo. I don't know much about testers, so I can't say if you can simply re-drill those hinge holes and re-fasten, or what. The material of the case is also pretty rough- faded, dirty, etc. Tester is untested. I wouldn't know where to begin. Panel is dusty and dirty. But the unit looks complete. It's somewhat loose from the case itself- see photo how I lifted it up out of the case a bit. I don't know how it's supposed to attach or whether this is typical. I see it as an issue, could be due to the case not being so great. I'm sure it would need to be gone through- tested, ... morecaps replaced, calibrated, whatever it needs. It's a project- don't expect it to work. Has several manuals with it. I'm sure others can be found online to print off. It's really heavy. This meter is complete and has all 3 leads. Two with end probes, the common lead having an aligator clamp. Power cord is in good condition. The unit was powered up and the red power indicator light was illuminated. It has Polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride selector knobs. The meter did respond to low voltage AC and DC current but I did not have it set correctly to get an acurate reading. It has a small crack on the upper left of the plastic window over the gauge and the plug also has a crack in it. I plugged it in and the light comes on instantly and bright. This is a Heathkit WA-P2 Preamplifier. It has been modified as there are all RCA inputs/outputs replaced with modern ones without oxidation. The inside looks VERY clean– no rust or stain! All knobs turn freely. The front panel is in good condition. Some small surface marks, no deep scratches– the logo is missing. The backside has several scratches. Look at the pictures. I cannot test it so it is sold AS IS! It’s a perfect pre-amp for a Tube-Amp-Project. No tubes included. Again– NOT tested! Please ask your questions– I will answer as best as I can. A vintage Heathkit GR-78 Shortwave Receiver. We are pleased to present this vintage Heathkit Shortwave Receiver for your consideration. It is the model GR-78. And covers the shortwave spectrum from about 150 KHz all the way up to 30 MHz, which includes all of the HF Ham Radio bands. An estate item, it comes to us without a power cord or manual, and is offered in untested, as-is condition. Nothing is included except what you see in the pictures. The Radio measures 4-7/8 inches high(exclusive of the built-in but removable whip antenna) 11-3/8 inches wide, and 9 inches deep. It weighs 9 pounds 10 ounces. A product sticker found inside the cabinet identifies the model as GR-78. With series/serial number 131 138105. It is designed to be powered from North American 110/120 Volts AC line voltage(with the appropriate cord) Or alternately 12 Volts ... moreDC. The exterior is in fair condition. With surface rust on many of the metal components, and moderate pitting to the chrome trim. Most controls turn or actuate smoothly. In particular, the main tuning rotates smoothly with the dial pointer moving as expected. The bandspread control turns smoothly, with the bandspread indicator rotating as expected. The bandswitch turns with the expected"click" into each position, although the control is a bit stiff to turn. The AF volume control turns smoothly through its expected range, but then continues to turn with more effort, suggesting that the pot itself may be rotating. All of the switches engaged without difficulty. The interior is mostly clean and in above average condition except for a small area noted by the back panel. There is one diode that looks quite corroded(see close up picture) with some other components in the same area looking questionable. Key components. Including the main variable tuning capacitor, are clean and in good shape. The circuit board at the top is clean and looks nice.
