Vtg Taylor & Ng oven mitt potholder quilted Chinese Chef Cook wok woman 1984
Welcome to my listing for a vintage quilted fabric oven mitt or potholder from Taylor& Ng! This company was best-known for the coffee mugs with cute graphic designs that it produced in the 1970s and 1980s. But they branched out into placing their designs on other products like kitchen linens. The long mitten-like oven mitt measures about 13 inches long and 5.5 inches wide at the bottom opening, and the design, printed in dark red and black, features a female Chinese cook or chef, holding two wok tools in one hand and a Peking Duck in the other. There's a credit line near the bottom of her apron that reads"by Win Ng(copyright) 1984 Taylor& Ng San Francisco. A mirror image of the same design appears on the reverse side. There's no information tag attached- I assume there was one, but it was removed. This potholder has probably ... morebeen used, but it's still in great shape with only minor surface issues. I see no stains or rips or tears. There are a scattering of 3 or so grain-of-salt-size white spots on the reverse side of the mitt, that I believe were caused in the printing process- that there were bits of fuzz on the surface of the fabric that absorbed the printing ink, then later when the fuzz wore away they left a protected/unprinted white spot beneath.
