ANTIQUE KERN AARAU SURVEYING TRANSIT WYE LEVEL SWISS 1918
Kern Aarau Transit Wye Level Telescope with Lens Cap Leveling Head Counterweight(extra) Eyepiece Wood Case This level is usable or very nearly so. The Head is free from scrapes and scratches. There is A light dappling of corrosion through. But not lifting, the paint on the frame holding the level and the rings. Somewhat more at each end oft the exposed face of the bubble capsule. All adjusters and fasters or straight and move freely as does the main pivot. The Head is missing one small screw of the two securing the white shield. The Telescope appears intact with no dents or scratches. The paint is chipped or worn through in a few spots. The ring lands each have an area of heavy corrosion which does not seem to weaken the land or breach the tube. The objective and eyepiece lenses are unblemished and bright though dirty on the inside. The telescope ... moreis missing the eyepiece adjuster gearshaft and knob. The box is rough and in pieces but could be reassembled nicely but restorable is likely too strong a word. Sheet of paper on shipping/damages was issued from White Company and in the box. I do not know what model this is, or anything about this item. All knobs turn. No cracks. Needs a cleaning. Box is intact. It is dirty mostly on inside, and does have a few cracks to it that go through box. Box is very strong tho. Latch works well and is tight. marked Queen& co Phila#6781 wood case is 23" x 6.5"x 9" deep I believe it is an architect's level; lots of brass on it. Very heavy in case: 21 pounds. Has metal piece to place on end of tube for viewing. This fits to the left in the case. No key to the lock. Leather strap is good; little flip locks work. Guessing 1800s. James W. Antique. Old, A.S. Aloe Co. St. Louis, 12439, engineers, wye level, surveyors transit. The level still has a bubble found in it and all the knobs appear to function properly at this item. The lenses are scratched. However, the transit is still in functional condition and focuses well. We are unsure if this assembly is complete. The original box is scratched. Stained, discolored, scuffed, missing its leather strap, the remaining piece of the leather strap is stiff, cracked, discolored, and we are missing the key for the box; the inside of the case has a few loose tripod and transit accessory parts, and a length of string. I cannot comment on, or guarantee functionality as I'm unfamiliar with the tool's use. I do, however, see the cross hairs intersecting in the middle when I look throught the lens.
