Selling a vintage Meridian model 8080. sorry item was acquired in an estate and I have no idea what it is or condition. But according to research it's a transit level surveyor. exterior seems to be in good condition. Whether it works I don't know. the red case seems to be a little beat up but the clasp on both sides work. Please forgive me if I missing anything. Thanks for looking!

Up for auction is this vintage C.L. Berger and Sons Transit/Level No.24291 made in Boston. Mass. USA. I have tried to fined some information about this transit/level on the internet but, I have not had any luck. I did find some similar but not the exact one. It does have some paper work in the box, which can been seen in 5th picture. The transit/level turns a 360 degrees with smooth action, and most of the knobs turns ok but, the 4 leveling knobs at the base seem to be locked up( I did not try to free them) or brush the green off the threads, thinking I might mess something up. I do believe they can be freed-up. It has a brass lens cover on the front and the focusing knob on top works just fine. The transit/level measures 15-3/8" long X 4-1/4" wide X 6-3/4" tall and weighs 10-lbs, 4.7-ounces and the box weighs 7-lbs, 3.7-ounces. ... moreThe box measures 17-3/4" long X 7" wide X 8-1/8" tall and is in very nice condition, and solid. It has a 5" bubble level on one side and 0-90 degree wheel under the eye piece and there is a round bubble level on the right side. Both work just fine. It has a 5-1/4" long flat plate with mirror on the bottom side, above the bubble level that can be raised to approx. 45 degree angle. Up for consideration I have a level that was bought by my father and used once. Since his passing. We are ridding of items that we arent going to use. This level has a nice black hard case. Case is very sturdy and protects level well for transport. There is a silver aluminum tripod that is fully adjustable. There is a crank that brings level up from middle and legs have 2 adjustments that make the overall unit nice and tall. There are 2 screw fasteners that hold level tight so it cant move. Level head screws to the tripod. Level head is also made of metal and has its own bubble display and adjustments. Has a 360 degree band on it. Also has the actual bubble level clamp. Than there is the actual level. This item is also metal with dual bubble meters upper and lower. Lower has an adjustment scale on it. Here's a circa 1900 Antique CL Berger& Sons Surveying Transit in Wood Case offered at NO RESERVE! The transit appears to be in Good Condition. Well used and showing the wear you should expect from an instrument that is 100 years old. I'm not a Surveyor but everything appears intact on the transit, please refer to the pictures and ask any questions if you're uncertain or I've left anything out. There's wear to the finish, loss to the black paint, and accumulated dust and dirt. The dial indicates a Patent Date of 1897 and I would say it was made not long after that date. Whatever accessories came with the transit are missing. The case is nicely dovetailed with much original and later instructions and other paperwork intact. The outside of the case has about 1,000 dents, dings, chips, scratches, holes, missing pieces ... moreand so forth but is still tight and strong functionally. Up for your consideration is a older Craftsman transit and tripod. The finish has come off in areas and it looks like it's brass underneath. Everything seems to function OK on the transit.
