Vtg David White SURVEYING LEVEL 8114 w/ CASE Land Survey Instrument Transit
Please read my listing thoroughly and view all 12 of my PHOTOS: Here is a vintage David White survey level model 8114. Serial number 151365, includes the original case. I don't know anything about survey equipment but this item appears to work well. The lenses look good, the cross hairs are straight, it focuses fine, the leveling mechanism and bubble are working. The paint on the level is original-there are some light scratches but overall it looks very good in my opinion, the unit could probably use a cleaning. The case is solid with no holes or cracks, it does have scratches and paint loss. The latches and handle on the case have some surface rust but they work just fine. Vintage K & E Keuffel & Esser Surveyors Transit Level Original Case & Tripod
This is an incredible find! A complete set includes the transit.Wooden box, bob and tripod. I can see through the lens at distance but don't know exactly what collectors are looking for. I'm rather sad to be parting with this, it is a really cool looking piece of industrial chic. I will carefully remove the transit and pack it for shipping. Check out the white and red paint and cut out details on the legs of the tripod. Very cool. I'm taking a shot in the dark at shipping, will refund any that I overcharge.

A mint vintage W& L.E. Gurley surveyors transit- see pictures for condition and items Lacquered Brass Transit by W. L.E. Gurley, Troy. New York, 8-inch telescope with attached bubble level on a frame supported by a four-screw leveling base, instrument ht. 5 in. This item dates sometime between 1909 and 1946. The company began using serial numbers in 1909. This transit has Serial No.13713 I did not have to clean it as it appears to have never been used or certainly only a few times. it is pictured as it was passed down to me and taken today as I write this fr ebay. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS ITEM EXCEPT FROM WHAT I READ BUT THIS ITEM IS IN A CLAMPED DOWN HARD COVER FOR PROTECTION AND THE SURVEY TOOL SEEMS TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. W. & L.E. Gurley Surveyors Wye Level 1930, 23.5", Original Dovetail Box, Transit
Up for sale. A W. L.E. Gurley Wye Level. This level is serial numbered 30610 indicating that it was made in 1930. The number was found on the base next to the Gurley branding. The box is in fair condition at best and shows a lot of wear and staining. There are two plates attached to the top of the box one has a 233. 1935, and SHD-7 stamped on it. The other is a Gurley branding plate. It has dovetailed joints and a latch on the side to hold the lid closed. The leather belt is only attached on one side. The leather belt on the other side is missing. The joint on the left side back looks like someone puttied it at one time(see pic) I think this level might have been stored in a barn or musty attic because the box has a musty smell. The level show wear from age and use. The black coating is crackled and the brass pieces could use a good polish. ... moreThe front brass pin used to hold the level in the base is slightly bent. But still works. The small black knob on the base has a chip(see pic) All the other knobs except for the big knob on the base turn freely and work. I am not sure what the big knob on the base, that doesn't seem to do anything, is used for. The crosshairs are present and I can look through the level and see the panes on the windows of my neighbors house that is about 1500 ft away. The image in NOT sharp, but I can make out the wood trim and distinct panes on the windows. The front lens look like it has a partial hazy type coating on the inside(see pic) I am not sure what this is or how to clean it, but it doesn't seem to effect it when you look through the level. There is also dust present on the inside of the lenses. The level still has fluid in it and a nice bubble is present. The level tube is approx. 23.5" long. The wood box is approx. 25" long. 10" tall, and 6.5" deep. I have tried to describe this item to the best of my ability. I am not an expert nor am I really familiar with levels in general. A great piece of surveying/engineering history. This Bostrom and Brady Co. level is from the 40's or 50's and still looks great with the level still working. The company was out of Atlanta so it is a good piece of made in the USA. Missing pieces and the original box. You can't see through glass when you look through it. Knob turns inside and you can see pieces move. Junkyard find. The level still works. Serial#0233. I believe this to be Model#4 by comparing to others online. Not positive. Sold as is. Vintage Berger Transit Level w/Oak Case & Tripod
I picked this up from the Northfield Mass area and it is estate fresh. As far as I can tell it is all complete and in working order but will need a cleaning and going over. I tried to picture it well to both show it off and answer some questions. It is all clearly marked and the number on unit is 2T-2225. The box is the original and nice dovetail the unit itself has the levels intact and nice brass through out. The leather straps on the case and tripod are broke from age. I'm offering it without researching the hec out of it and it may indeed be worth a bit more. This should be purchased by someone who is a collector and has the know how to at least clean and adjust it properly. I can not sell it guaranteed to be in perfect order out of box. I just like to offer my customers good value and hope for a quick sale so I can go find more good ... morestuff. I am no expert but judging from the little I know and appearance I think 1940's maybe 30's. I'll do my best with packing and shipping and do not pad the cost but 2 boxes may indeed be better way to ship avoiding oversize charges and damage should be around 25-30 east coast and 40 west. Up for auction is a vintage Sokkisha(present-day Sokkia) transit with the original wood and aluminum tripod and a red plumb bob. I have done my best to take pictures of the important-looking parts of this instrument. But I am not a surveyor and I do not know anything about surveying equipment, so please let me know if there's any part I should include a picture of. The legs all extend to about double the height. I have looked through the lens. And light passes through it, but I do not know how to focus it. Also. The compass does not seem to move, but it could just be locked. Again, I am not sure. Buff and Buff #14221 Level/Transit/Case
Own a piece of history. Vintage surveying equipment began it's career when Henry Ford bought these instruments for his civil engineers to build out the infrastructure necessary to support his burgeoning auto business. He needed railroad access. And Detroit and Ironton RR was born, which is where these instruments found their home for the next 50 years. Along the way, they became Detroit, Toledo, and Ironton RR, or DT&I. Old-timers from the Detroit area would remember this RR as the one with the big cement arches over the tracks. In the 80's, Grand Trunk bought DT&I, and these tools were ultimately retired. Still viable tools, they work flawlessly, while the patina is a testament to their experience.

Love the item but not the price? Contact me with your best offer. Vintage Brunson Survey Transit with Original Dovetailed Box. This transit is in good condition for it's age but it does show wear. This transit does have some areas with paint loss. And it is a bit dirty. I've only wiped it with a soft dry cloth. There are some spots with may be surface rust or could be dirt. The optics appear to be in good condition and movement is very smooth. The wooden dovetailed box is marked Brunson on the top and contains a repair label on the inside dated 4/24/1975. The box has a completely weathered appearance and there is only part of the original leather carrying strap on each side. There is some staining on the top of the box which gives it character. The side of the box has some separation of the dovetail. Which is pictured, but the box ... moreis still sound. Box contains 4 bits or tools inside to help calibrate or fine tune the transit. This transit was purchased from the original owner. He was unsure exactly how old it was but has used it up until last year. 2014, when he received a new one for Christmas. This transit is functional and would make a great gift for an engineer or surveyor and it also looks beautiful on display. Transit has the patent numbers 2208014 which was filed in 1938. And 2329978 which was filed in 1942. Brunson is a well respected name in the metrology business. Brunson has been around since 1927 and has made accurate measurement devices for property surveying. Instruments that assist with alignment of navigational systems and submarines, and tools and techniques to help build air crafts and satellites. Brunson is still around today. In 1997 Brunson acquired their main competitor Cubic Precision which was formerly known as Keuffel& Esser, or K& E. Transit Measures: 18 inches long x 9 1/8 inches tall and Fits on a 3 1/2 x 8 tripod. Vintage Rare 1928 Dietzgen #14064 Survey Transit Level
Eugene Dietzgen was born in Uckerrath. Germany on May 6, 1862. He died in Chicago on December 1, 1929. He came to America in 1880. The company was founded on November 13, 1885 under the name of Luhring& Dietzgen. This partnership was succeeded by Eugene Deitzgen& Co. in 1891. Successor corporation under the name of Eugene Dietzgen Co. of Illinois occured on February 3, 1893 and the present corporate company, Eugene Dietzgen Co. of Delaware was incorporated in Delaware on October 29, 1917. This was used in and during the war. The box is in very good condition. But the leather strap is gone. Key lock no longer works on box. Surveyor is in good condition, just needs to be cleaned. I was told though not to refinish it because since it was in the war the condition should stay the same to hold up the value. A great part of history.
