Very good Condition with original case. Instrument and case have inscription"Stanley London 1918. Brass instrument will polish nicely. Optics are clear but instrument will not focus. Focusing gear is laying in the case. A jeweler should be able to repair easily. A couple of wooden instrument supports have come loose inside case and can easily be re-affixed. Hasp on case has working RFD(Rural Free Delivery) padlock with key. RFD mail service began in the 1880's and continued into the 1920's. Thank you for looking!

I am offering the 9th edition of an Engineering& Surveying Instruments Catalog entitled: Warren-Knight Transits and Levels" 9th Edition, Catalog. This bright red cover catalog was printed in 1948 by the Warren-Knight Co, 136 North 12th Street, Philadelphia 7, PA. Please note that the Warren-Knight Company has been in America since the 1700’s. They have been one of the most noteworthy manufacturers of survey equipment, since they began business in 1912. When reviewing this book for content. I came across the following types of survey equipment, but this list is not all inclusive: transits with and without compasses, survey transits, contractors transits, engineer wye levels, dummy levels convertible levels, Three arm protractors, quadrant levels, tripods, a few tapes and ... moredrafting tools. There are numerous beautifully drafted, printed illustrations. The last photo, I took, shows the Index page of this catalog. This 1948 catalog measures 11 inches by 8/12 inches and has 50 very informative pages in it. The condition of this catalog is good. Some surface, edge and corner wear and no interior writing or marks that I could notice. Please look at the photos I took of it so you can see what you are looking for. The cover of this catalog is very bright red card stock grade edition with an outline drawing of one of the instruments it sells. This is a very hard catalog to find. I could not find another one for sale anywhere. listed today is a great looking vintage transit and original wood transit legs. the transit is marked with a brass tag c. l. berger and sons.Boston mass. the transit is a 20 second verneer- the leveling bubbles all work great. and all adjustment screws are all in good condition. the transit has very nice optics and fancy crosshairs. all funtions work great. the legs I believe are original. they also are very fancy featuring double hindges on each leg and strong top screws. the top transit screw is marked 12-th. everything on the legs is wood and brass. the transit measures 15 incdhes tall. the transit is also marked ser no-29727. the sunshade is also original. Offering a very nice Vintage Craftsman Survey/ Transit tool. The only number I can find on it is the serial number and it is 40165. It comes in it's original metal box and with it's wood tripod. It also comes with a Ford Lufkin Rule Company tape measure. Hanson plumb as well as a few other extras that are pictured. The case is in decent shape for it's age but does appear to have been painted. The optics look great and the cross hairs are in place. To my understanding this was manufactured by the Torka bros. and is one of the first examples of this type of scope. I believe these are called transit scopes. I don't know anything about survey equipment but this item appears to work well. The lenses look good, the cross hairs are straight, it focuses fine, the leveling mechanism and bubble are working. The paint on the level is original-there are some light scratches but overall it looks very good in my opinion, the unit could probably use a cleaning. The case is solid with no holes or cracks, it does have scratches and paint loss. The latches and handle on the case have some surface rust but they work just fine. 1874 Edward Kubel (Wurdemann Maker) Survey Transit, Box & Tripod, ONLY 1 KNOWN
This is super rare American transit that looks exactly like a famous Wurdemann. The only I have ever seen by Kubel who was the shop foreman for Wurdemann and it reads to an amazing 10 seconds of precision. Wurdemann was a famous DC maker of fine instruments and had many contracts with the US Coast Survey. Kubel was the foreman of the shop so was probably the one responsible for making all those instruments for 20 years. Wurdemann and probably Kubel instruments were used to do many of the most important boundary surveys in this country, the international boundaries and triangulation. It has the original striding level and if you look closely many unique design features not found on any other instruments except Wurdemann. It is in good working condition and has a 10 1/2" long scope, 5 3/4 inch plate and a 4 inch long compass needle. Vintage Starrett Model 101A Leveling Transit Survey Equipment w/ Orig. Wood Case
Up for auction is a vintage Starrett Model 101A LEVELING INSTRUMENT in its original wood box with leather strap. This is an interesting piece. I could not find another model 101A that had sold recently. The other models I see look more modern so this may be a rarer earlier version. I don't know if this unit is complete and what should be included in the box. I have taken photos of what is here. I do see that other transits come with a lead weight so that is missing and I don't see an original manual. Most of the other transits boxes have broken leather straps. This one is complete. There are two tool manuals included. The legs move fine and adjust. This transit box measures 14" long x 10" high x 5" deep. 1919 Keuffel & Esser Survey Transit With Original Tripod & Case
Due to size- no international shipping on this item(tripod is not collapsible) 1919 Keuffel& Esser transit. Includes carrying case and original tripod. Serial number on transit is 38363, dating it to 1919. Inside of case has the original Keuffer& esser Co. label, outside of case has a plaque marked KINKEAD MFG CO. Boston. Mass Case includes a plumb and other tools, also a small packet marked"wood screws and washers for transit carrying case" The case has a notch cut out on one end so the transit can be placed into it without removing the eyepiece. The piece of wood on the top of the case has a couple of cracks the length of the top. Opened carefully it will stay put. But it will fall out if opened harshly- the pieces just need to be reglued together. I am not an expert on transits. But I believe there should be a knob in ... morethe hole on top- it is not included. Please bid based on what you see and ask questions. Optics are crystal clear with reticule and the housing is excellent condition with light surface wear in a green finish with brass trim. Transit measures 12 3/4" from eyepiece to end and 6 3/4" from top to bottom. Original tripod. Stamped Keuffel& Esser on top of leg. Overall light wear to wood, very sturdy. VINTAGE 1943 GURLEY TRANSIT Troy NY WITH ORIGINAL BOX U.S. Gov't Survey
This auction is for a VINTAGE 1943 GURLEY TRANSIT Troy NY WITH ORIGINAL BOX U.S. Gov't Survey. This transit is in very good shape it looks like it just needs a good professional cleaning and it will look great. I don't really know much about these things as this was my father's and he passed away not to long ago he liked these things. You can date some Gurley instruments by the serial numbers this one has a serial number of 431070 looks like and this from what I've learned means it was built 1943 and is the 1070th one they made out of who knows but someone could get that info if they wanted to. U.S. is stamped on the wooden box as you can see in the pictures and also on the transit itself and the casing has a green like leather texture to it. Gurley apparently had some U.S. gov't contracts to produce these for them for ... moreseveral years so this one probably belonged to the Geological Survey or the Department of Forestry something like that. The wooden case has all kinds of tiny compartments and things and is in very good vintage shape. It seems like it's in pretty decent shape overall I suppose a collector would know how to go about reconditioning it but it seems like it's all there and won't need anything else to get it back to nice shape. I have been looking at these on eBay and online for a while and it doesn't look like there are many or any for sale right now but I have no idea if these are hard to get or not. Like I said I don't really have any clue about these things. I have a few others of these for auction now and a really old brass or copper one without a makers mark on it too. Here's a quality Dietzgen wooden tripod in really good condition. It is about 36 inches tall folded. And the legs will extend another 24 inches. The only defect I could find was one of the tightening knobs is bent a little bit on one leg but it still works as it should. Some scuffs and scrapes overall but nothing major. Thanks for looking!

Love the item but not the price? Contact me with your best offer. Vintage Brunson Survey Transit with Original Dovetailed Box. This transit is in good condition for it's age but it does show wear. This transit does have some areas with paint loss. And it is a bit dirty. I've only wiped it with a soft dry cloth. There are some spots with may be surface rust or could be dirt. The optics appear to be in good condition and movement is very smooth. The wooden dovetailed box is marked Brunson on the top and contains a repair label on the inside dated 4/24/1975. The box has a completely weathered appearance and there is only part of the original leather carrying strap on each side. There is some staining on the top of the box which gives it character. The side of the box has some separation of the dovetail. Which is pictured, but the box ... moreis still sound. Box contains 4 bits or tools inside to help calibrate or fine tune the transit. This transit was purchased from the original owner. He was unsure exactly how old it was but has used it up until last year. 2014, when he received a new one for Christmas. This transit is functional and would make a great gift for an engineer or surveyor and it also looks beautiful on display. Transit has the patent numbers 2208014 which was filed in 1938. And 2329978 which was filed in 1942. Brunson is a well respected name in the metrology business. Brunson has been around since 1927 and has made accurate measurement devices for property surveying. Instruments that assist with alignment of navigational systems and submarines, and tools and techniques to help build air crafts and satellites. Brunson is still around today. In 1997 Brunson acquired their main competitor Cubic Precision which was formerly known as Keuffel& Esser, or K& E. Vintage Rare 1928 Dietzgen #14064 Survey Transit Level
Eugene Dietzgen was born in Uckerrath. Germany on May 6, 1862. He died in Chicago on December 1, 1929. He came to America in 1880. The company was founded on November 13, 1885 under the name of Luhring& Dietzgen. This partnership was succeeded by Eugene Deitzgen& Co. in 1891. Successor corporation under the name of Eugene Dietzgen Co. of Illinois occured on February 3, 1893 and the present corporate company, Eugene Dietzgen Co. of Delaware was incorporated in Delaware on October 29, 1917. This was used in and during the war. The box is in very good condition. But the leather strap is gone. Key lock no longer works on box. Surveyor is in good condition, just needs to be cleaned. I was told though not to refinish it because since it was in the war the condition should stay the same to hold up the value. A great part of history.

Nice looking vintage antique surveyor's tripod and rod. There are no visible markings that identify manufacturer or date on either of these pieces. Both pieces are sold"AS IS" with visible scratches. Dings, chipping, and wear. On visual inspection of the pieces there was found to be more wear on the back side of the surveyor's rod and one of the pins or cleats on the tripod appears to have been replaced at some point(see images) The wooden tripod has approximately 58 inch legs and the rod is extendable from approximately 81 inches to 147 inches. VINTAGE KEUFFEL& ESSER TRANSIT IN ORIGINAL BOX USED TO SURVEY NIXONS HOUSE IN CA This transit was used to survey President Nixons property in California. The transit is structurally sound. But has cosmetic defects such as chipped paint, tarnish, and there is something clouding the lens. It is painted a drab green color. The level bubbles are all in good condition as well as the compass and there is not any cracked or broken glass. It comes with few accessories such as a screwdriver, soft brush, plumb, and assorted small tools that I do not know what they are for. The hloster for the plumb has ripped all the way down and no longer holds it in place. I was going to take the brush out to picture it woth the other items but when I touched the bottom paint chips began coming off so I did not mess with it. The label inside the door is a bit ... moresmudged in places but is still easily legible. The metal ID tag that used to be on front has come off along with most of the veneer on the front, the tag is now sitting inside the case. There are many cracks, scuffs and other damage to the wooden case. It needs to be gently handled or it may fall apart. The leather strap on the top to carry the case is broken and ripped in more than one place. There is no longer a key for the door. The case for this transit measures 16 1/4"x 13 3/8" x 9" The entire height of the item including feet and handle is closer to 18" The transit itself measures 15 1/4" tall x 12" X 7 1/2" Shipping priflects insurance and handling fees. Up for sale is a vintage surveying transit. Model Ni2 by Carl Zeiss, distributed by Keuffel and Esser. The image looking through the transit is bright and crisp. And the spirit(bubble) level works great. The transit comes in the original finger-joined wooden case. The case is in okay shape. But would need some restoration. in particular, the latch almost/sometimes engages properly but could use some cleaning/adjustment for reliable functioning. Many of the brass fittings on the inside show a bit of greenish corrosion, and will need to be polished. The exterior finish is serviceable, but rather dry. Maybe an oil/wax treatment? There is no tripod included. Just what you see in the pictures. As far as accessories. W.&L.E. Gurley Survey Transit Tripod and leather covered case 1918
This 1918 transit was offered by Gurley and was designed to be carried into the field where weight and bulk were primary considerations. The instrument with the leather covered box and smaller than usual tripod could be more easily carried in the field. This particular instrument also came equipped with the seldom seen Beaman Stadia Arc which was designed first in 1904 and issued a patent in 1906. It was offered by Gurley as an accessory that could be attached to the vertical circle of instruments to help simplify and speed up the figuring of elevations and other Stadia related work. Great overall condition. Apparently rare tripod as well.
