Very Nice Condition Survey Kit. Includes Transit. Tribrach, Telescoping Tripod, Laser Level and carry case. Items in photos are exactly what you will receive- Guaranteed. I don't know much about land survey equipment. But this appears to be in very good condition with very limited use. All bubbles work fine. Tripod fully extends. Also included is a Keuffel& Esser 3tier Survey Slide Rule 54" long in non-extended position and classic Tri-Pod 57" in closed position. We estimate that these are all from the 1940's but we were unable to confirm. The container box is also marked"Force Machinery CO. Union NJ Phone MUrdock 8-8270, and is 13 3/4" wide, 11" deep and 6 1/2" high. Container box has one missing rubber foot. One hinge has replacement screw not original. If you're reading this. You already know that Gurley made the finest instruments of this type. I inherited this from an engineer relative. Thus all claims stated here are based on my own research and some very helpful discussions with Larry Meeker. First off. This does not include the SOLAR attachment. Importantly. Though, it does have the threaded hole atop the scope(pics) where it would most likely be affixed. Presumably. This was originally a Burt solar transit. PThere is no serial no. that I can find(see pic of point South) Which would put it pre-1908. The straight"A" braces(not curved) could indicate circa 1871. Fleur-de-lis at point North. Scope is 11" 12" expanded. Height is 13" and compass is 5 3/4" across. Probably an engineer's transit. Case appears original and has what might be holder for ... moresolar on inside bottom(pic) Leather strap has been professionally replaced. One rubber foot came off and will be affixed inside. There is a spot next to compass where"16472" was hand-etched for some reason(pic) Chain on bottom. No fob. All knobs and parts seem to work fine. All three levels have working bubbles and liquids are green. Blue and clear. The 36 1/2" tripod appears original. But I'm not including it with this transaction because some already may have one or not want one. Instead. If the buyer wants the tripod at market value, I will allow said buyer to purchase via BIN(you will be notified immediately prior to listing at agreed-upon price) Otherwise. marked Queen& co Phila#6781 wood case is 23" x 6.5"x 9" deep I believe it is an architect's level; lots of brass on it. Very heavy in case: 21 pounds. Has metal piece to place on end of tube for viewing. This fits to the left in the case. No key to the lock. Leather strap is good; little flip locks work. Guessing 1800s. James W. Queen was born in Philadelphia in 1815. He is first listed in 1839 Philadelphia directory as an optician. In 1860 he became associated with Samuel L. Fox and the firm became James W. Queen& Co. The Buff& Buff firm originated after the break-up of the original Buff& Berger partnership about 1898. I would assume this transit dates from just a few years after ... morethe turn of the century and before the 1930's. The overall condition is nice. It does show signs of use. It has all original finishes. Buff was known for this sort of thing. Where they would finish the barrel or scope one way, black in this case, the standards another, green, and the base plate left natural. It helped give their instruments a distinctive"look" The compass operates, it turns nicely, The half circle on the side is silvered, and the all motions seem to move a they should. This is a vintage hardwood surveying rod with brass end connections and cloth cover. It comes with a sectioned canvas cloth storage case. The rod is 16+ feet tall when assembled. There are a few spots of wear on the cloth covering as shown in the photos. The canvas bag is soiled. We didn't attempt to clean it. Weighs about 12 1/2 lbs. Each section is about 55" tall.

Very cool measuring stick model# 6278-A. It is 14' and folds in half. Basically like carrying two 2x4's around. Once stood up there is a hook that locks the two pieces together. Great decorator piece but I'm sure it could still be used for surveying if you chose to. Hard to get a pic that shows just how bold the colors are against the white background. Vintage transit by Keuffel& Esser in it's original box. I know nothing about this so you are bidding on what you see, it does look complete and their a lot of gadgets in the box including two plum bobs, the piece looks to be in good condition the lenses look good as does the entire instrument, there is wear to the paint on the tube from use but no dents or scratches, it measures about 11in. long by 6 1/2 high, the wooden box again is in good condition it will need a new carrying strap and I don't have a key for it, if you collect early transit's or just need one to use it's a nice one and I'm sure well worth what I'm starting it at.

Old brass W& L E Gurley surveying transit with original leather bound wooden case. The compass does not face North-I don't if it supposed to. Or if it is locked down, or what. The two levels are clear and work good. A glass cover on one of the sides is cracked, but you can still easily read the numbers. I see a number on the base that reads 195. I don't think that is a serial number, so it may be pre 1908-from what I have read. The scope measures 9" long and it all stands 11" tall. Please see pictures for best description. Here is a great old Kueffel and Esser surveying transit. I do not know the model number on this K& E Transit. Oneof the yokes on thsi transit has cracked and looks to have been repaired with epoxy of some type. Not the pretiest repair but it seems solid. There is a repair tag attached. Everything appears to be in working order. Optics appear clear. There is some tarnish to the brass. Some dust, some scratches. To me trhe transit looks completely usable as is. Would definitley benefit from a nice cleaning though. Awesome library or office decoration. Great usable vintage piece of surveying history from a reputable company.
