ANTIQUE W. & L.E. GURLEY TROY NEW YORK Survey TRANSIT LEVEL
This is a vintage quality W.E Gurley brass transit. It weighs about 13 pounds and stands about 14" high. There is no box. There is no serial number on this transit. Hence. It dates prior to 1908 which is when Gurley started numbering them. This one has 3 spirit levels. The small one on the front is cracked and lost it's fluid. The other 2 look fine. The optics are clear and the focus works. The compass works and the glass is good. There is a locking mechanism(one of the brass knobs) that holds it tight for transport. The brass has dulled and has not been polished. Enjoy!

No Reserve! This is a nice antique surveyor's transit made by Craftsman in the original wooden box. The Craftsman logo on this device is the original Craftsman logo from 1927. The company had changed to its more familiar logo by 1938. So this piece was obviously produced sometime between those two dates. Made of brass and heavy metal(perhaps cast iron? This is functioning transit. The glass lenses and levels are all working and intact. It can be mounted on a tripod. It is stamped with the number 304.1. on the bottom. Transit XVIb Switzerland Antique Vintage Survey Tripod + PLUMB Stand No Reserve
This is a vintage Transit XVIb Survey tripod that my grandpa used in his survey business. It says Switzerland on a tag and it has XVIb stamped into the metal. it is still in good condition considering the age and comes with a plumb bob in the little case that is attached to one of the legs. Vintage 1933 Keuffel& Esser#61463 Survey Transit Steam Punk 1933 Keuffel Esser K&E#61463 Transit with Matching Box. Very nice K&E 61463 Transit. Keuffel& Esser 61463. The serial number corresponds with a date of about 1933. Don't know much about them. Or how they work, but it seems to all be there and working. The serial number places it as a 1933 instrument. The Condition of the transit looks good, it seems to work, the levels work with no cracks in the glass that I found. Glass is clear. That's as much as I know about testing it. I know nothing about these things. It is in the original box with the same serial number as the transit. The box has some wear. The box still has the original shipping labels. The transit needs to be cleaned. I am not qualified to work on transits so I have not attempted to clean it other ... morethan a light dusting. There is no tripod with this instrument. Please look at the pictures and ask questions I probabley won't be much help but I will try. Very nice instrument that shows signs of use but not abuse. Up for auction is a small engineering transit that is an unknown brand. The auction includes the tripod and a few accessories. The transit does appear to be in working condition. It is a heavy brass item and has signs of heavy use. The entire item is dusty/dirty and the box is missing its leather strap. It does latch but I do not have a key for the box. You are bidding on an Antique Surveyor's compass. This came from a local estate and is in very nice working condition. It is complete with a leather carrying case and the compass folds up and fits in the case perfectly where is has been protected for many years. I am by no means an expert on these items but have included 12 photo's so please view them and ask any questions you may have before you bid. The unit has the names on the back that reads Tycos- Short and Mason- London- Made In Great Britain- No.L26029 embossed into the brass. It also has a functioning needle lock that works and when it is loosened off the needle points to the direction it should so the compass functions fine finding true north in my hand.The case is in nice condition and protects the item for transporting. The compass is made of brass painted over and the ... moreonly thing i see that is a negative is the paint has worn in several spots over the years showing the brass base. It is complete with the small screw on adaptor that was used for mounting on a tripod and folding sight arms. I do not know the age i would estimate early 1900's. Gurley level transit with its original wooden box and tripod dating from 1925. It is in great shape for its age and use as shown in the pictures. The lens looks great without any scratches or chips but it is dusty from storage. It is marked as shown with the serial number as 251222. It comes with the original wooden box and leather strap but the leather strap has been broken. This transit and box come as shown and the box measures 9" x 9" x 14-1/2" high. The tripod telescopes out and measures about 65" high fully extended. One of the metal clips at the end was broken but I still have it and it will be shipped out with this as well. The overall condition of transit is good considering it was once in a teaching lab here at Washington State University. Lens hood& cap and wooden box. This level is in good shape- everything with threads moves smoothly. There are some spots on the glass. There is some finish missing from the barrel, the box shows scuffs but is solid and all of the latches, corners and the leather strap are in good condition. Note- there is some wear on the handle of the strap, but other than that this instrument is free of damage. Also, there is some blue label tape stuck on the inside of the lid, near the original plate. There is a lens hood inside the box and slots for more accessories, but they are missing. See photos. Vintage Bostrom-Brady Brass Transit Survey Instrument w/ Case
Everything on the unit seems to work well. The bubble is full of liquid and functioning. There is definitely finish wear. But for being as old as it is, the wear is relatively minor. All the adjustment and leveling screws work smoothly. The outer wooden box is in okay shape. The top layer of wood is starting to peel away. This is a nice brass transit made by WM. Ainsworth& Sons in Denver Colorado. It includes a brass plumbob. Very nice vintage wood handled screwdriver& a plastic item by Bushnell that I don't know what it is. Not sure of the date but the lower paper on the inside of the door says it was repaired by Saeco Survey Equipment in March of 1978. Saeco is or was a local company that manufactured survey equipment. The top of the box has a brass plaque with the maker's name& Type BD No. 2014 above their name, The Precision Factory Denver COLO. USA below their name. Their is one tag on the top of the door inside that reads; Silge& Kune Scientific& Optical Instruments, San Francisco CA. This instrument was used by a local surveyor here in the Redding. Ca. area. He did surveys for Sierra Pacific at several locations& a lot ... moreof surveys in the local area. In the 1950's he worked for the U.S. Government in Veitnam, yes we were there then, I have his military issued tent(floorless) wooden footlocker. Not sure when he retired this instrument, as he had a habit of using his equipment until it was too outdated.
