Nice!! J. Hoare American Brilliant 7" Cut Glass Compote Intaglio, Cane, Prism
This beautiful cut glass compote was made by J. Hoare of Corning NY. It took me forever to find the acid mark on the bottom. But I wasn't surprised once I did(and of course I found it by accident) The quality of the glass, depth of the cuts, pattern and resonating ring when tapped all pointed to the maker being one of the finer cutting houses of the American Brilliant period. Picture 9 shows the circular Hoare mark under a scratch, which is a good landmark, as the mark is faint and not easy to find. It stands 7" high by 8" across and has a 24 pointed star on the 5" wide footed bottom. There's a really nice intaglio design of flowers and leaves set into a repeating pattern of cane, prism, star and fan cuts, plus a cut I can't identify in picture 7. The short, thick stem, which widens towards the top, is also cut ... moreon its 6 sides. Condition is pretty good. Picture 5 points to the only two damaged areas-one missing tooth and a flake on another. There are scratch marks on the bottom and there's a tiny flea bite on the bottom edge, but there are no other apologies. Each cut has a rainbow in it. Just lovely. It's a heavy piece, so please wait for an invoice in order to get correct shipping quotes. Shipped within five business days of receiving payment.
