Up for auction or buy-it-now is this awesome find from The Bryant Electric Company. It comes complete with original box. It's a single pole shallow type. Model 5501-L for locking. This switch was manufactured by The Bryant Electric Company between the years 1888 and 1901. In 1901 the name was changed to Bryant Electric after it was sold to Westinghouse and became a subsidiary of that company. This is truly a great find and a wonderful piece of electrical history! The switch is in perfect condition with no chips. Scratches or cracks of any kind. The images show some light staining of the porcelain; but holding it in your hand, it looks clean. The discoloration is enhanced by the camera and the magnification. It's free of scratches and discoloration. The mechanism of the switch is in perfect working order with absolutely no signs of ... morewater damage or corrosion. When actuated. The switch makes a quality, solid and reassuring click. The spring sounds strong and positive with no rattles. Both the switch and the box look and feel like they'd been stored in a cool. Dry place with care. The box is in excellent condition. All seem to operate OK and I don’t see evidence of severe arcing. All are single-pole. Except for one of the push-button type is a 3-way. It has chips off two corners of the porcelain-see photo. All the items came from the estate of a man who had owned a Electronic Parts& Service Shop in Hollywood during the 1960s- 1970s. All the packing boxes were stored in his garage for at least the last 25-30 years. He died about 20 years ago. I am not sure if these parts went directly from the shop into his garage. The brass switch plate cover measures 4 1/2" x 2 3/4"and has a very slight bend but fits the light switch perfect. The porcelain on the push button switch measures 1 1/2" deep x 2 1/2" length and 1 1/2" wide, it is Marked Ideal, the mounts are 3 1/2" apart.
