For auction is a rare and amazing-sounding Radio King bass drum. 14 x 22 inches, in a deep gold sparkle. The wrap has typical spotting. But all seams are good and tight to the shell. There are some extra holes in the shell, filled with brass bolts, that I have pictured. They may have been drilled for a rail console. There are no holes drilled for legs. I have hoop-mounted Slingerland legs which I will list separately. The beaver tail lugs are fair with some pitting. The claws and Ts are original and work perfectly. One Radio King calf head. For sale are two Slingerland snare drums. The Red Sparkle Radio King is 5 1/2 x 14 stamped March 20. 1958. The snare handle has broken off( which happens often) The drum has the original wires and rims and a small split in the shell(see pic) at the lap joint(also common) but stable and"IN ROUND. The badge is a little loose but not too bad. The brass snare also is in original condition with original wires(one strand missing) Late 50s early 60s Black and brass badges on both drums. The drum is mostly complete but is missing the hardware pieces as shown in the pictures. One hoop is split but not all the way through. If you are handy in wood working you should be able to repair the hoop and it appears it should be functional as it is. Some of the"screws" that attach the heads have a bend in them. They all turned out fine when they packed the drum for shipping. It appears that the inner"hoops" are birds eye maple and the inner shell appears to be mahogany? The drum will need new heads. See the photos as we are not drum experts as you can tell. We were told this is called black pearl. NOTE-NOTE-NOTE-NOTE-NOTE: The head shown in the pictures is NOT included. We were unable to ... morefit in in the only box we could find locally that fits the drum. The head had tears and a patch so it needed to be replaced anyway. Again. 60's SLINGERLAND DARK BLUE SPARKLE RADIO KING SNARE DRUM (HARRY CANGANY'S)
This is a beautiful deep dark blue Radio King from Slingerland. The black and gold badge means the drums was built at the old Slingerland factory in Niles. IL. The deep blue probably means that the drum has red sparkle on the underside of the covering, instead of white backing. The three point or Krupa strainer and extension butt plate mean that the snare wires are pulled tight and extend beyond the shell. And that shell is aged solid maple and will be a beautiful main or auxillary drum. Plus it's historic and if you keep it in this shape, it will never decrease in value. It has some wear and some missing parts. Tom has five streamline lugs. There is some missing hardware(Rim and T-Rods, etc) on the bottom as shown. The original tom mount was replaced with the diamond plate. With some research you can probably find the missing parts on the internet. This drum was acquired from the late comedian Charlie Callas, who was an accomplished drummer. He and Gene Krupa were friends and somewhere along the line Krupa gave this drum to Charlie. I traded a Radio King snare drum to Charlie for this drum. Drum has been kept on a shelf for the last 18 years as a display piece. There are early pictures ... moreof Krupa playing this model drum, but more likely this drum came from one of his band members. Included is a photo of one of his band members using a very similar drum. Each of Krupa's band members would have a music stand with a 10" tom attached. They would use these drums during the'Call and Response' portion of the show where Krupa would play a figure and the band members would respond on their toms. You can see the same diamond plate on one of the toms in the photos. Check out the pictures and judge the condition for yourself! This is a great drum! Comes with everything shown in the photos. Open to International Bidders! This No Reserve auction. Is for a vintage 1940's Slingerland Radio King seperate tension mounted tom-tom. This incredibly rare drum measures 7" deep x 11" wide. And is made up out of three plies of wood( mahogany/poplar/mahogany) and has large solid-maple interior glue rings. The interior of this drum is finished in natural mahogany. The exterior is factory wrapped in Slingerland white marine pearl. As you can see from my photos. The factory pearloid covering is in gorgeous condition, and it is only slightly yellowed with age. The finish is tightly bonded to the shell, and there are no modifications or extra holes in the wood drum shell. This drum is factory equipped with ten small"beavertail" lugs. A clip-mount Slingerland tom holder, and a internal muffler assembly. This drum came with ... moretwo hoops originally, but the bottom rim is missing. The top rim has the words; Slingerland Radio King" engraved into it. The original top batter side Radio King logo drum head is included with this drum. But is ripped and damaged with age. Up for auction is this cool project Slingerland Super Radio King Snare Shell. This version originally had the Clamshell/ Super Strainer. INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION IS ONLY THE SHELL& WHAT IS LIKELY THE ORIGINAL CLOUD BADGE. THIS SHELL IS OUT-OF-ROUND BY ABOUT 1/4" BUT I SUSPECT THAT AQUARIAN MODERN VINTAGE HEADS MAY FIT. The photos tell most of the story. So i'll try to keep this brief but informative. The Brass Cloud Badge is in better shape than most and has been taken off for some reason. Excellent job and glued back on with the original brass grommet. Likely done by Sistek Music Co. in MI. Who also rubber-stamped the inside of the shell 4 times. I FEEL CERTAIN THAT THE WMP IS ORIGINAL EVEN THOUGH THE BADGE HAS BEEN OFF. THE WRAP LOOKS JUST LIKE ALL MY OTHER SAME-ERA RADIO KING DRUMS. THE SEAM IS TIGHT AND YELLOWING IS TYPICAL ... moreOF THE ERA. I DON'T SEE ANY CRACKS IN THE WRAP. Maple 1-Ply Steam-Bent Shell with Maple Re-Rings. 14" x 7" Deep. The shell is out-of-round and will take modern heads only if you wrestle them on there. The difference between the wide and narrow is about 1/4" Some typical Re-Ring separation- not bad. The bottom re-ring has a small crack in it that i just noticed for the first time in the 4 years I've had this shell. Does not go all the way through. Bearing edges are in very good shape overall. THERE ARE 4 EXTRA HOLES- 2 ON THE STRAINER SIDE AND 2 ON THE BUTT SIDE. The 2 holes on the butt side would easily be covered by an Clamshell and the 2 holes on the strainers side will slightly peek out from the sides of a Clamshell. Most of the original holes have been plugged. But could easily be drilled back out. So there you have it. Cool project that could yield a very nice snare. If bad comes to worst. The 1940’s WWII era Aluminum Cloud Badge that was used from'42-47(as seen on vintagedrumguide.com) is a bit faded but it still readable(Chicago. IL) Has scalloped Beavertail lugs, original Rapid Fire 3 point strainer and double internal muffler. There is a little rust on the strainer and some of the tension screws. Some pitting on the chrome. Bearing edges look good and feel smooth. The bottom head is possibly original to the drum. It does have a small hole in it near the Slingerland stamp. The top head is vintage by Kent. The snare wires lay straight when under tension. This drum was used mainly in mid-state NY in the early 1950's and has been in storage since that time. Bendix/King LPH 5142 VHF Mobile Radio
This is a used. Working Bendix/King LPH 5142 VHF mobile radio. It was pulled from a working environment. Aside from the scratches and scuffs from daily use, this particular one sports a custom-engraved back, with“OA2756 51X” rather sloppily written on the back. Additionally, the two leftmost rubber domes on the switches on top have degraded(this seems to be common with BK radios) Aside from all that, it's been working great since its adoption sometime long ago. I obtained this guy and a few other mobile radio things from a friend who works with this kind of stuff. So if you're interested in some other odd used radio equipment, let me know. Shell is mahogany(with re-rings) Has been refinished and has an aluminum Slingerland Cloud Badge. Other than the holes for the missing hardware, there are no other holes in the shell. I used the drum as a floor tom(mounted on snare stand) as well as a bass drum(on a Danmar conversion mount) and the drum performed excellent in both capacities. The drum sounds HUGE! 16" Calf Skin Drum Head Floor Tom Batter/Top Calfskin From Krupa Radio King Era
This auction is for a vintage 16" calfskin floor tom drum head. This head is fairly thick and has some visible wear and stick marks. It should clean up significantly without much effort. This head has a tall crown of about 1/2" And is tucked on a square-edged flesh hoop that itself is about 7/16" tall. NOTE* At some point someone wrote the initials"JEK" in blue/green ink in small 1/4" letters on the head as shown in the photos. It is in good condition for its age. But has not been mounted on a drum or played in the last 20 years or so. Slingerland Radio King three piece drum kit- Green Sparkle 1930's/40's
Slingerland Radio King Green Sparkle finish with nickle hardware. We believe it's from the late 30's or early 40's but we're not 100% sure. 14x26. 7x11 and 9x13. 14x26 bass has flat rail calf front head with new fiberskyn Powerstroke batter head. Green Sparkle is faded on one side but otherwise is in great condition. 7x11 was tom converted to double tension. Calf skin top head, coated bottom with tom mount. 9x13 tacked bottom calf tom head with tom mount. Slingerland Radio King" is engraved on both tom rims. This is not a perfect kit but for the age is in great shape. The finish shows wear and the pics show the condition. Hardware shows age also but again, overall it's in good condition.
