Icom IC-U400 16 channel UHF Mobile two-way radio with programmer
I've owned this Icom U400 since it was new. It has never failed me. I used it mobile for years. Until the time I replaced it with a dual band radio. Then it was used as a base radio. I'd be surprised if this rig is less than 20 years old. It was used primarily for Business Band, but also for GMRS and Ham operation. At one point I had local PD programmed in. Transmit inhibited, of course. The Mic cord is stretched out a bit. There are a few scratches and some dust. If you know the radio. You know it is programmable, but only by using the EX-494 programmer. Well, good news, I am including the programmer. In the photos you will see it attached to the top of the radio. It is attached with heavy hook and loop tape, so it is easily removed. To program the radio, you had to remove the front panel from the radio, then plug the programmer ... moreinto the"head" and reattach it. Then you could program anything you needed. Then reverse the process to uninstall the programmer. As a Ham, and because I was on the road a lot, I didn't want to have to do that. I notched out a small slit in the casework, and routed the programming cable through that. So, the programmer was easily accessible and usable without having to take the radio apart. You can, of course, remove the programmer if you don't need it very often. I think I have both the user manual and the programming guide. I will make a diligent attempt to find them. Addition items that I'm including. But which are not reflected in the price, are the remote mounting kit, a cloning cable(never used) and an ICSP5 speaker. The radio does not have an internal speaker. The remote mount kit is dusty and has a little rust on it. The cable is damaged in one spot. But not cut. You'll want to clean that up and splice any broken wires. Repeating, I am not attaching any value to this. It's handy if you want to remote the radio. No optional filters or other options are installed. When tested on the air reception was good and VHF power out was over 30 watts. UHF power out was very low but worked a local repeater. I'm totally unfamiliar with this modern radio and all its features and functions and therefore can't give it a more comprehensive test. Therefore it's offered as is. No return. I bought it at GigaParts on Nov. 29. 2013, I have the receipt also. You won't go wrong with this radio there is no issues, from a non-smoking home, no scratches, I take care of my equipment.
