Bailey Letter Copying Machine w/Moistening Attachment Ca 1886 w/Original Stencil
This item was born in an era that is foreign to many today. Who would have thought that technology would have progressed so far. This Bailey letter copying machine was first patented in the late 1800's. There were other presses that were designed before this one. These were developed for use by offices and others to copy important letters. Circulars and other documents that needed to be mass produced. This particular press was patented by Leonard Bailey. He was the original inventor of what is now know as the Stanley plane. Standing the test of time. This piece retains the original reddish brown stencil design that includes the name of the company on the front of it. The drawer is intact and opens and closes with very little sticking. The wheel turns smoothly up and down. The moistening attachment on top rolls with minimal difficulty ... moreand the material on the rollers is starting to bulge and crack. The press has the following dimensions: Base plate is 17.25" x 12" and has a height to the top of the plate of 2 3/8" The height to the top of the moistening attachment is approximately 16 7/8" When the press is fully open the space is approximately 2.75" The drawer is intact with some very light white corrosion to the metal. There is still some original cloth paper inside the drawer as well. This is in remarkable condition given the age. There is minimal fading/losses to the stenciling and the black paint as well. There are age and use appropriate scratches. This is a previously owned item and it is being sold as shown. Please view photos carefully and feel free to ask questions. Due to the weight of this. Kelsey Excelsior Model C 3x5 Letterpress Press fully restored & 100% print ready
My best guess on the original manufacture date of this press is pre-1928. This press has been completely disassembled; the only exception to this is the ink table operating dog was not removed from the carriage during the restoration process. All painted parts were stripped down to the metal and re-finished with 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of color. The raised type in the castings have been accented with black paint. All non-painted parts(pivoting rods. Ink arms, etc. were cleaned thoroughly. The fasteners in the platen back have been replaced with stainless steel cap head screws. Nuts& washers. The set screws in the chase have been replaced with new stainless steel hex drive screws. The chase latch spring is new. A custom made extension has been added to the chase latch to prevent the spring from damaging the finish on the press. ... moreThe roller hook springs, retaining washer and pins are all new and made of stainless steel. I fabricated new grippers for this press. This press has a new ink table machined out of plate steel. The platen has been balanced to the chase bed with.030" packing under the tympan and is included with the press. The additional sheets of press packing included will allow you to change the packing under the tympan to adjust the print impression height as you change stock caliper. This is much easier than re-balancing the platen each time you change stock caliper. The press is currently packed to print on.012" stock. For example. If you wanted to print on.007" stock, you would add a sheet of.005" packing under the tympan. As with any press, the condition of your type and blocks and the uniformity of the type height will ultimately determine the quality of the printed image. The type used to print the proof card is new. Rollers have been recovered with new rubber on original journal. Trucks are also original. Rollers have only been used on this press(to verify press balance and roller quality) to print the card in the photo gallery for this item. The press has been

For sale is a C& P platen press. The serial number in photo two says"1986" from what I have found, that indicates that this press was manufactured in 1890, but I have never used this press other than spinning it over by hand and via the electric motor retrofitted onto it. The press(and the four Hamilton typeset cabinets full of typeset and shapes/designs) are in my basement. Unfortunately our basement does not have good access to get the press out. It will have to be disassembled to get it up the stairs and out. It appears from research that this printer weighs 2550 pounds. There are three square cuts. Each with 4 arrows. They are 3" 1 3/32" and 25/32" square. The largest one was used for report covers, the middle one for letterheads, and the smallest one for envelopes. The heavy black arrow is slightly below type high on all three, as it was heavily made ready to maintain the solid, and has pressed down into the wood over the years of use. However, you can see that they are all in good condition, being sharp and clean, but will need considerable make ready to print as well as this proof. These were used by a market research firm. The idea was that information was collected(the open arrows) and collated and interpreted for the client(the solid black arrow) The large one is the configuration used by the company, but you can turn them to whatever direction you want, hence the two small ones pointing ... morein different directions. Miehle V-50 Vertical Letterpress Transfer Table Fair Condition
You may have noticed my other Miehle V-50 Vertical press parts sales. I have a Heidelberg KSBA. And it works a LOT better than the vertical. I even have some tricks to let me get closer to the gripper with a numbering machine, perf, and score, so I am disassembling the V-50 and selling it part by part. Let me know if you have any specific part you want me to list, and I'll endeavor to list it ASAP. This is the Transfer Table. Sometimes also called the Feed Table, part#23085(and the associated parts) This was my extra table that I used for non-light paper. The leading edge is very worn from running heavy cover and chipboard for many decades. It is so thin and delicate that it needs to be flattened out before using, or it would rip any tympan and possibly not feed very well. As stated above, it probably will not feed paper 12# or lighter ... morevery well. The press was completely refurbished around 1980 and was used pretty much continuously for the next 15 years. When I got the KSBA. The vertical was then used only sporadically until about 2003. After 2003, it was used virtually never, maybe 2- 5 jobs a year. There is some grease. Oil, and dried ink on the associated assemblies, but I cleaned them enough for you to see what good condition they are in. I lubricate my equipment very well because I am penurious. Oil is cheaper than repairs. If you want to see any other view, let me know and I will endeavor to post it asap. Insurance. Signature confirmation included in S/H.
