This is a vintage Stokol thermostat housing with thermometer. I believe this should date to the 1920's or 1930's. I assume collectors and decorators will know for certain. Stokol made coal furnaces in the early 1900s. This piece may have been linked to a coal furnace. It is a heavy metal/ exact metal content unknown/ looks like a brass finish or a gold gilt coloring finish Looks like Art Deco styling Rounded edges with Art Deco style line décor on the front If the form number 2-39 found on the written instructions on the inside of this metal piece refers to a date. Then this piece would be 1939. However, the patent number dates to 1925. Front has a brass or goldish metal finish. Art Deco line styling at the base. STOKOL at the top with a working thermometer. Offered is a True Vintage Minneapolis Heat Regulator With Final Patent Date Of 1910. It measures approx. 6 ¼” wide by 6” tall. There are two patent dates displayed on the original label. Aug 6. 07& Mar 8, 10. This is 1907& 1910. The working status of this regulator is unknown. The hand crank moves slightly. But does not turn full circl e. The housing is in good vintage condition with no cracks or splits. There were two locking tabs that held the door on front. Only one tab remains. There is some surface rust scattered around the housing. Consistent with that of 100+ year old antique metal ware. These regulators were the predecessor to the modern day thermostat. This catalog is not dated but has testimonials dated 1887 and 1889 and other references indicating this was produced around 1889 or so. The catalog is an oblong format of 16 pages including the covers measuring about 7.5" x 4.5" The cover reads: The McLeod Pneumatic System for Heating. Cooling and Ventilating Railway Cars, Steamboats and Other Modes of Conveyance- Modified and Improved- Simple, Cheap, and Effective- No Passenger Scalded by bursting Steam or Hot Water Pipes, or Burnt by Upset Stoves in Wrecked Cars- The disastrous result of fire in wrecked cars as well as bursting(and annoyance of freezing) steam and hot water pipes and irregularity ... moreof temperature in winter, and offensive sultry hot, dusty atmosphere in summer, evidences the need or a radical improvement- Invented by J. Case too is in great shape, and the dial is in mint condition. The Model 77 was used from 1924 to 1934, when the clock movement was replaced with an electric version. This knob is white with chrome(my photos are a little yellow due to lighting) Some corrosion on metal. Some staining to plastic and a small chip near the 400 degree mark. Antique ARCO TEMPERATURE REGULATOR w/ Clock & Alarm Thermostat Thermometer
This antique thermostat is 8 5/8" tall. 2 1/2" wide and 2 5/8" deep. It has"2-5-26 13755-S" etched on the back of the clock. It is complete and everything is original with the exception of the 4 screws holding the front cover on. I'm pret ty sure they didn't use phillips screws back then. The alarm works. But the knobs for time set and winding are missing. I used needle nose to turn them once to see if it would wind. It does wind, but I didn't keep doing it for fear of messing something up. It probably needs to be cleaned and oiled. The thermometer works. Please use the zoom feature to check the condition. A cloth covered metal heating pad with a small adjustable thermostat on the left hand side just below the label. The only reference I could find on this was from April 1919 UL List of Inspected Appliances(pg 64) I've plugged it in and it does get warm. But I would advise using caution. From the looks of the plug, it likely wouldn't meet current electrical safety standards! The cloth removes with 3 snaps along the left hand top edge. Two of the 3 snaps work, the third one is missing the female side of the snap. Here is a Minneapolis Honeywell Heat Regulator Thermostat with the patent date of Oct.22. 1918, so it was probably used in the 1920's. It has an 8 day jewel clock, which is a Minneapolis 77. The thermometer, I believe works. It is about 74 and that is correct. But I could be wrong. It is USED, shows some wear. I don't know if it works.
