Black rubber is in good shape.The alm.handle does have some paint chipping.There is some very light rust colored stains on under side of head(pic 3)I dont think its rust because it doesn't feel rough to the touch. L J Smith Bore Buster Plus - Stair Handrail Tool - LJ Smith, LJ-3061, LJ-3060
This is an L. J. Smith Bore Buster Plus. A stair handrail boring and installation system. It is in good condition and works just as it should. It is 100% complete except for the instructions which can be downloaded from the L J Smith website: this is a 16 page PDF) I had the larger bits sharpened recently and they haven't been used since. The only significant functional condition issue I see is with the plastic case- there a hole in the back and two of the hinge pivots are partially broken. These are shown in the last picture. The hinge could be reinforced and repaired to be made functional. Or you could order a new case through any L. J. Smith dealer. I have been a contractor and finish carpenter off and on for 40 years. And have installed a considerable number of handrails- both before and after acquiring a Bore Buster. It is one of ... moremy favorite specialty tools, and now, I wouldn't choose to install a handrail without one. What does a Bore Buster do? Its main purpose is to bore the holes in the bottom of a handrail for the tops of the balusters to fit into. The Bore Buster drills clean flat bottom holes- quickly and easily- all at the correct angle, of equal depth, and centered in the rail. Many decades ago when I did my first handrail, I bored the holes by eye, guided by a pitch block held next to the bit. The results could have been better, and I soon began using a variety of hand built jigs to improve on that method, with varying degrees of success. The Bore Buster was a substantial improvement over anything else I had tried and in every possible respect, and faster too. When you assemble a balustrade and the holes in the rail are clean and true, everything goes together SO much more easily. The Bore Buster also bores the bottom plug holes and the ends of the rails for the fittings bolts. When the rail bolt holes are true there is much less fiddling and adjusting to get the fittings to go together right- and no having to file out the insides of slightly off center holes drilled into end grain to get t

For auction Is this unusual hand saw. my guess it is a stair saw. It has a 6 inch blade and it is 6 TPI. I believe is an old saw. By the construction of the pins to hold the blade in place. But I don't rule out that a later model saw that is made in Europe. At any rate it is a nice looking tool. The blade is pretty sharp. The blade will need to be cleaned. L J Smith Bore Buster LJ-3060 Handrail Stair Building Tool, LJ Smith - NICE!
This Bore Buster was used only one time to build a residential stair a few years ago. And hasn't been used since. It is in excellent condition. The Bore Buster precisely and accurately bores the holes in the bottom of the handrail to receive the balusters. You can easily set the correct angle for the holes by first calculating the rise/run angle. And then set it using the degree graduations on the tool. Better yet though, just lay a length of handrail upside down on top of the tread nosings, clamp the Bore Buster to the rail, and set the bore angle using the level that is built into the tool- totally foolproof. The Bore Buster also jig bores the holes for the rail fittings, with perfect placement and alignment. If you like to do quality work. You will really appreciate the ease of use, precision, and speed that you will get when using ... morea Bore Buster. This tool is complete with all its bits and instruction booklet. Etc. There are no issues with the tool or the case or anything else. It is ready to use. It may be missing a little 6" flat file(not sure) for touching up the bits now and then, but this is a common inexpensive item that you probably already have around.
