I don't know the age of this vise, ... morebut I know it has many more years of use left. I used this one for many years of trouble free operation. Properly maintained, this will last forever. The capacity is 8" without wood jaws. I used 2 16" L) x 1 3/4" Thick) pieces of ash and had plenty of room. I don't recall a time when something did not fit. Of course with the bench dog on the front and the additional dog that installs into your bench, your options are practically unlimited. This vise fits onto a 3 1/4" benchtop. But can be shimmed for thinner top. For a thicker top you will need to make the jaws a little taller or trench out the bottom. Installation is easy and straight forward. The threads are in very good condition. I did not see any chips and they are nearly as sharp as new. Refer to the photos. The threads on the female part are also in fine condition as shown in the photos. I cleaned out the old grease/wax so you can use your preference prior to installation. I cleaned this yearly and used wax. But that's a personal preference so I leave it to you. This is a quick release. There are no threads on a portion of the gear. Quarter turns are all that is required to loosen or tighten. Very efficient. The mounted dog is also a great addition. It's adjustable and stays in place. I installed it close to my vise and that required shortening the dog. But it's still plenty long. Take that into consideration when installing, especially with a thinner top. Mine was 3 1/4, so there is about 3" left. I cut off about 1" Please email me if you have questions or would like additional photos. As shown in the last photo the vise is well packed in a box with foam peanuts to protect. The vise is heavy. Over 30 lbs, so shipping will reflect that.
