Offered here is an original(circa 1920) SNOW& NEALLEY- Bangor, Maine 3 1/4 weight, double bit, lumberjack axe. The early two bit axe shows an obvious accumulation of original patina and use, out and about in the frontier; while maintaining excellent steel and sharp edges. The vintage Snow& Nealley logging tool shows no substantial indications of extensive sharpening; with plenty of edge for further honing, upon your skill and discretion. The axe is laden with strike marks; while showing no unsightly oxidation. The handle shows obvious indications of misguided strikes, being heavily knicked and scuffed. Never Used Hutchinson Black Powder Blasting Wedge With Cap If your looking at this I'm sure you know what your looking at but in case you don't I'll tell you a little about this. These were filled up with black powder. Driven into the end of a log, a fuse inserted, lit and then BOOM it would split your log into more manageable chunks for sawing splitting, etc. etc. Folks, something like this one is rare if I may say so myself. Very rarely do you find one with the cap let alone in Like New Condition. Check out the photos, ask questions, see for yourself, this thing is immaculate. I am quite convinced a sledge or a hammer has never been put to the end of this and the wedge end has never ever seen a log. Is the paint original? I don't know. I would think so but I'll let you be the judge. There are no chips, cracks, nothing ... morewrong with this. In fact on the sledge end(where you put the pounding cap) the casting or lathe mark whatever it is is still available. I would think this is perfectly fine for using but I WOULDN'T, this thing needs to be on a fireplace mantel or something, you don't see these everyday. Extremely accurate in scale and realistic in its form, patina and touch. This piece was expertly caved by the craftsmen of the Karen Hill Tribe of the Golden Triangle region. The Karen people have maintained a close relationship with elephants for centuries, raising them and using them for such task as clearing forest and transportation. Until recently most Karen Hill people kept elephants, but nowadays most elephants in the region are kept in conservation centers. To the Karen people, elephants are revered creatures and the white elephant is revered most of all as a symbol of good luck. According to Karen folk lure, such items are revered and are believed to bring good luck and are kept in the home ... moreto ensure good luck for the family. Often times herds of wooden elephants, like this one, are placed in front of spirit houses(as seen in the photo above) to bring good luck to the spirits of dead relatives and transport them through the spirit world. Spirit Houses are very common throughout the region; families build them adjacent to their homes as dwellings for deceased relatives. I got this magnificent piece during a trip to the Golden Triangle Region where the Karen Hill Tribe live.
