It was used to match a low impedance microphone to the high impedance input of the Ampex preamplifier. The input impedance is 150-250 ohms or 30-50 ohms depending on how the input is configured. This was used on models 351. 600, 601, and possibly others. I worked for an Ampex dealer back in the 60's and have had this in my box of transformers for years. It's a bit scuffed up but has no bent pins or other dents and the windings are all good. It has been tested and passes audio properly. Due to it's age I have to sell this as is. One of the best all time transformers for moving coil step-up or mic input. The RCA MI-12399 type; dead-flat frequency response, within a half db from 10hz to 30Khz, which is the full range of our Loftech TS-1 tester. The primary is center-tapped. So it can be wired for 24 or 30db of gain, with the same quality of output either way. These were designed to use a 9 pin'octal' style socket. But if you can find them, they aren't cheap; we are providing an alternate way to mount and wire them, a pair of capactor style mounting clamps, and color coded wires in twisted pairs, with molex type female pin connectors, made for the exact size pins on the transformers; the result is a simple build, and the ratio can be changed by moving one wire, no soldering; we are including the clamps, hardware, wires, and also thin clear protective layers ... moreto protect the xfmrs from being scratched by the clamps; hard to see in the pix, but they are there. The primary windings are on pins 5-8. And pin 6 is the center-tap; this is the input side for step-up or mic pre. This is a MC step-up transformer using the now discontinued Cinemag CMQEE-3440A transformers. This transformer is PURE MAGIC with the Denon DL-103 and DL-103R cartridge! This is a beautiful unit that I built myself. I have built many units in the past. Two pieces of poplar that sandwich a single piece of walnut. Rubber feet cover the holes in the bottom where screws are in place that hold the bottom piece of wood to the top two pieces that are fuzed together. All interior wiring is wire from the transformers themselves. Hi and low gain and ground lift switch. Rubbed with linseed oil. Whether you have incorporated the look of real wood into your stereo collection or not. This unit really stands out, is a conversation starter, and sounds phenomenal. Transformers were brand new when I bought them for this project. This unit is dead quiet. These are very difficult transformers to construct and require a very precise manufacturing process that can only be accomplished by David Green at CineMag. These transformers are wired to connect a moving coil cartridge(on a turntable) to a phono preamplifier. Phono input of a receiver, or your preamp's phono input. Switchable for 1:16(24 dB gain) or 1:30(30 dB gain) Into a standard 47k phono preamp. The effective input impedance of the low gain(1:16 ratio) is 184 ohms. At 1:30, the effective input impedance is 52 ohms. Note: The 150 Ohm tap and the 37.5 ohm taps are specified by the manufacturer to provide 1:18 and 1:36.5. However 1:16 and 1:30 was measured using a 50 ohm audio signal generator at 1kHz with a 47k output resistance, which approximates the real situation of a moving coil cartridge load using this transformer into a standard RIAA preamplifier.

Cinemag Step Up Transformer 4 Low Output Movil Coil Cartridges 1:12 turns ratio!
I made this. I think it is beautiful. Others who see it think likewise. It is poplar sandwiched by two pieces of walnut and rubbed with linseed oil. I created little aluminum tabs and used two part epoxy designed for metal to secure the trannies to the wood top. I have made many, many step up transformers, sold some, given some to friends and family. Gold rca's, solid ground post, all wire solid core, silver covered copper salvaged from a vintage 1950's console stereo unit. This is a quiet unit, transformers are cinemag 75122-90's. 1:12 turns ratio with a split primary. Ground lift switch and high and low output. I don't get lots more gain from high to low. I find this to be typical of all SUT's that I have ever made that have multiple turns ratio's. I inquired with David Green, owner of cinemag and he described the ... moretransformer as, a tape repro(playback head) transformer for Todd AO. When asked about its application as a step up for a low output moving coil he stated, Give it a try. It might do a pretty good job for that application. Well it does. Very good imaging and the bass isn't muddy, like some SUT's that I have made in the past. The top two layers of wood are fuzed together, the bottom part comes unscrewed from the other two. In the second and third to last photo's you can faintly see the holes where these screws seat into the wood. I wasn't able to completely cover the holes with the rubber feet that I applied. Ask any questions that you have. I have impeccable feedback and with my previous sale of a SUT, the buyer was very happy with the unit. High Quality Muzak U900E Transformer Pair moving coil step up, mic pre
A very nice pair of transformers for moving coil step-up or mic input. The Muzak U900E; Muzak at one time made good quality audio equipment, before they made their infamous reputation for elevator music. These transformers have dead-flat frequency response, within 1db from 20hz to 30Khz. The primary is center-tapped. So it can be wired for 24 or 30db of gain, with the same quality of output either way. There is also a third winding on these, with a medium impedance, which would be a great line input point for a tube mic preamp built around them. These were designed to use a 9 pin'octal' style socket. But if you can find them, they aren't cheap; we are providing an alternate way to mount and wire them, a pair of capactor style mounting clamps, and color coded wires in twisted pairs, with molex type female pin connectors, made for ... morethe exact size pins on the transformers; the result is a simple build, and the ratio can be changed by moving one wire, no soldering; we are including the clamps, hardware, and wires. The primary windings are on pins 1-3. And pin 2 is the center-tap; this is the input side for step-up or mic pre. And is 250 ohms impedance, and 20 ohms d.c. resistance; the center tap would be used for phantom power for a mic input; for moving coil step-up. The full primary gives 24db of gain; using either half gives 30db of gain, at the secondary, on pins 8-9, which is 50Kohms impedance, and reads 2.6Kohms d.c. resistance; the third winding is on pins 5-6, which is 10K with a d.c.r. of 1Kohms; there is also a ground wire on pin 7.
