This is a shop made step up transformer. It was in a shop that I bought all the equipment from. The owner used this transformer to run a 480 volt 3 phase milling machine and a 480 volt 3 phase lathe. I think the transformer came from a welder. He had the transformer wired with 220 volt single phase input voltage. The 480 volt single phase output voltage circuit was connected to a used 480 volt 3 phase idler motor and some capacitors to convert the current to 3 phase. CONCORD CT-40 MOVING COIL STEP UP TRANSFORMER, RARE, GOOD CONDITION!
Is anyone familiar with this item? I purchased it used. And it works really well with every moving coil cartridge I've used it with, ranging from the Denon 103(3 mV output) to the Goldring Eroica(5mV) with good results. It provided enough gain for the phono input and was very quiet in doing so as long as the cables were of good quality shielded types. Unfortunately I have never been able to find specifications, let alone a manual, and I have looked and looked. I was told it works really well with tubed phono stages, but I can attest to the fact it works well with solid state phono inputs as well. In any case, the Concord CT-40 never calls attention to itself, you just flick the switch up for moving coil gain and down for moving-magnet type cartridges-no external power source is needed. If I had to guess I would say this was made in the ... more70's or 80's. I purchased it about 10 years ago and it works as well today as it did when I received it. one Altec TBB-103 transformer. checked for open coils and is in perfect working condition. This is a low level input transformer for operation from a 500. 250 or 30 ohm line into a 70,000 ohm secondary load. The secondary may be used either single ended or in a push-pull arrangement, as both secondary windings have balanced capacities to ground. The frequency response is flat within 1 db from 20 c.p.s. to 20,000 c.p.s. The maximum operating level is-20 db from a reference of 6 mw. Shielding: the electrostatic shield is brought out to term S and should be connected to the equipment ground. The transformer is potted in a nest of high permeability cans within the case. Providing 90 db of magnetic shielding. Primary connections: Connect to 1-3 for 500 ohms. Connect to 1-2 for 250 ohms. Connect to 2-3 for 30 ohms. Secondary connections: 70.000 ... moreohms connect to 7-10 strap 8-9. 17.500 ohms connect to 7-10 strap 7-9, 8-10. For single ended use ground number 7. This unit is housed in a steel can with 3 mu-metal round cans nested inside each other within this outer enclosure. In between the nested cans are copper shading cylinders. I wish you could see the pictorial of how these cans all nest(tuck) inside each other. each can is deep drawn and has a bottom lid with two holes(to route the lead wires) Once assembled the whole thing is wax filled. There are two electrostatic shields which isolate the high impedance secondary windings from the primary windings.
