Description This is a lovely antique school desk. It has a wooden left top with metal sides and legs. It is 30"high. 23 1/2" wide and 16 1/2" deep. It has a hole for an ink well at the top, a recess to hold a pen, and an actual pen. When you lift the lid you will see that Alex Moore wasn't paying attention in class and decided to inscribe his name to the lid. Wonder if he got in trouble for that one? There is also an old test which has been left in the desk for year. The seat is very low. I am guessing it was attached to another base at one time. It is 11"high. One of a kind tramp desk made by marrying two mismatched pieces. Most likely dates from 19th century. Woods used look like pine and oak. Constructed using a combination of woodens pegs. Slotted and round-head screws. Lots of storage space, including 10 pigeon holes and two sections with hinged tops. Turned front legs with tapered square legs in back. Striking diamond pattern on top section and charming turning wooden latch to secure door. Piece stands 3'11" tall and is 2'4" wide. It has an extreme depth of 16" and 24" of floor clearance. ORG CLARK'S SPOOL THREAD CABINET DESK-LIFT LID-6 DRAWER
SPOOL/THREAD CABINET This is a late 1800's or early 1900's wood spool/thread cabinet. Made for a counter top display and can be used as a desk. The cabinet retains the original painted letters on the drawer fronts and emblem on the back. The piece has six(6) drawers all with original knobs/pulls. It measures at the base 32 1/2" wide x 23 1/2" deep. The lid is angled for a writing/working surface. The piece measures 13 3/4" tall in the front and 14 1/2" tall in the back. The lift lid is 17 1/2" deep and supported by a wood piece to hold in place while working within. The leather top to the lift lid has been replaced and there are three or four wrinkles. The knobs appear to be brass and so do the collars around the knobs. Some of the knobs have dings/slightly bent and need polishing/refinishing. The top drawer ... moreon the right front use to read"White" but the letters are worn from use. The piece no longer has the wood dividers in the drawers for the rows of thread. A previous owner used this piece in his store and inserted hand made tin dividers in two of the drawers for bills/receipts. These could easily be removed if you so desire. The top right drawer was used as a money drawer and the previous owner has made a place for coins within(see photos) The drawers are not perfectly clean and show ink spills/spots/stains/dirt and could be refinished. They are now natural wood. The back decal has been scratched and part of the original paint is missing(see photo) There is a small gap in the bottom trim around the base located at the front left bottom corner. I believe the wood to be oak or ash(not sure) but it is a heavy piece and in nice condition for the age and use. This would be great in a vintage sewing room or with a group of period advertising. Antique oak slant top desk. Slant top section lifts on brass H-hinges from the top providing an excellent storage space beneath. Secondary wood is pine. The flat side area has been covered in green felt and has two small drawers. Drawers are framed with molding and have decorative wooden pulls and sturdy dovetail joints. Wide turned legs complete the Victorian-era look of the desk. This desk dates from the late 1800's. Overall. The desk is in very good condition. There is a little bit of sagging in the middle of the desk, where the two sides join, which has caused some of the wood to separate. See picture. Vintage Lift Top Writing Desk - Pull-Out Writing Surface
This flip top writing desk is 35" wide. 19" deep and 32" tall. The top flips up and the front flap on the flip top can either stand up or lay down. The writing desk has a sheet of glass covering the writing area- but the writing surface pulls out to make the writing area larger. When the writing area is pushed in(glass covered area) the surface is 24" wide by 9 1/2" deep; however the writing surface can pull out an additional 6 inches to expand the writing area to 24" wide by 15 1/2" deep. Lift top desk with ink well holder. Pen/pencil tray both on and in desk. Desk is adjustable forward and back on its supports by about 1” T he hinge mechanism holds desk lid in any position. Patent information stamped on hinge dates to late September 1925. Chair is bent wood with integral swivel and height adjustment. Swivel is spring loaded and allows the chair to rotate about 45 degrees either side of forward to allow student easy access to his or her desk. Steel tubular frame is extremely rugged and angled to reduce floor space required and provide stability from tipping over. Maple for durability and good looks. Desk shows typical signs of use such as pencil and crayon marks but overall the surface finish is quite nice. Wood can be refinished as desired. Some history about the Kenney Brothers design: This ability for adjustment was a critical requirement based on studies of childhood ergonomics back in the 1910’s. Henry Wolkins sold office equipment to many schools in the Boston area in the late 1800's including Harvard University and Harvard Medical School. His father. FLH Wolkins came to the USA from Bremerhaven, Germany in 1855. He was a fresco artist and calligrapher whose works can be seen throughout the city and has been exibited in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. In 1902 Henry Wolkins merged his company with a furniture company named Kenney Brothers. Primitive Antique Writing Desk with Lift Top
Up for auction is a great old piece of workmanship in a primitive writing desk with lift top. I believe it to be late 1800's to early 1900's. Showing square nails, just a great piece. I have attempted to show all sides, top and bottom of desk with the bottom showing some shrinkage in the wood to open a crack, just adds to the appeal. Measurements are as follows: front to back 17" across 15 1/4" and a little over 11" high, a nice portable size. Any questions, please ask. Vintage Robsjohn Gibbings Mid Century Modern Vanity Lift top make up desk
Up for consideration is fine Vintage Mid Century Modern Lift top Desk Make up Vanity by Designers Robsjohn-Gibbings for Widdicomb. The piece measures 30 inches wide by 31 1/2 inches tall when closed and about 48 inches when opened and 19 1/4 inches deep. The chair measures 34 1/2 inches tall by 21 inches wide by about 24 inches deep with a seat height of 18 1/2 inches tall. The vanity has a stenciled production number on the bottom. The piece functions nicely as a small writing desk etc.then with a lift of the hand it transforms into a makeup dressing vanity. It really is quite simple with good clean lines. It retains its original Widdicomb Tag along with the original Heart glass decal on the mirror.It has very light signs of wear with a small dime shaped area of discoloration on the left Top side of the piece. The chair is not marked but ... morematches nicely with the vanity desk. It may be Widdicomb as some of the dining chairs have the same form. The material is leather and the wood probably maple. It is really well made with just very light signs of wear. Shipping is Greyhound Package Express at a cost of $99 dollars to anywhere in the lower 48. One will have to pick up the piece at the nearest Greyhound Package Express in their are. Free local pickup and delivery.
