I think it's more numbers. The meters say Volts AC Rectifier Type Model 506, the one on the right is model 517. It has 2 cords on the side, one has a 2- pronged plug and the other cord is 2 bare wires. It is very unique military piece. It is solid wooden box and has a government furnished property tag on the inside. It has connections on the side for 10 amp. 20 amp, and common. The box appears to have had some sort of lacquer that is flaking off, however the entire piece is very strong. Even has the original handle.
