This is a Heathkit IT-11 Capacitor Tester. It is in very good to excellent condition. Notice the 220 uf capacitor under a test. Dial is quite accurate. I did test a few different values of capacitors. Chassis is very clean. Case looks very good. Eye tube is still useable. The 2 uf reference capacitor was replaced because it was out of tolerance. I can furnish a copy of the schematic. But I do not have the manual. The Heathkit IT-22 Capacitor Tester is an instrument that allows the user to check capacitors without removing them from the circuit or. Of course, removed from the circuit. It will disclose open, shorted, or intermittent capacitors and, with just a little bit experience, permits the evaluation of a possible leak in the capacitor tested. So, it is a useful instrument for"taking a look" on vintage equipment. The IT-22 is the CT-1 successor(same instrument with different appearance) This instrument is easy to use and it is essential in order to verify the in-circuit condition of old paper capacitors which are present in 40's. 50's, and 60's radio and audio equipment. Using the IT-22. A five-position switch is employed. Center is"AC OFF" At left is"AC ON- CHECK" for"SHORT" with its"TEST" ... moreposition and at right are the same positions for the"OPEN" test. The switch is spring loaded in the"TEST" position so as soon as you let go it springs back to return to the"CHECK" position. This switch action removes any voltage stored across the capacitor during the test. The operation of the IT-22 is simple but sometimes confusing because when the eye tube closes or remains closed. The test is"OK" but it reflects a negative condition(NO SHORT circuit, NO OPEN circuit) Before testing. However, make sure the power is off in the equipment being tested. Switch to"OPEN CHECK" or"SHORT CHECK" position(choose whichever test you want to put in operation first) and allow the instrument time to warm up. Clip the test leads across the capacitor to be checked. Then switch to"TEST" position. An OPEN eye in this position always indicates a BAD capacitor, and a fluttering eye always indicates an intermittent capacitor. If the eye CLOSES(or remains closed) then MAKE the OTHER TEST. The magic eye vacuum tube powered on and glowed green. I let it stay powered on for approximately 1 hour. I did not attempt any other testing. Electronically. It appears to be complete, turning on and providing some type of result. Unfortunately with my limited understanding of this type of thing, I cannot truly attest to its accuracy, or if it is working 100% correctly. As expected with anything of this age, it may possibly need some type of service/repairs, parts, and calibration. Being sold for part and/or ... morerepair. At arms length it looks good. A closer view will reveal scratching and discoloration throughout. The top front corner has paint loss/chipping and a rusty looking stain. Heathkit C-3 Condenser Checker. This is a great economical tester for finding leaky capacitors. The internal circuit has been checked over and components replaced as needed to bring it into proper functioning condition, switches and controls have been flushed with a non-lubricating contact cleaner and the tester is working as it should. The 1629 eye tube is good but not as bright as a new tube would be, the white spots are just glare from the room lighting. While these are not known for their accuracy in reading capacitor values test readings are within 10-15% of a known value, where this does shine is in its ability to find leaky capacitors up to 450 volt. Several known capacitors have been checked and it does find the leaky ones and shows the good capacitors as good. It measures 10 inches by 7 inches high and is 5 inches deep. It has rubber feet on the bottom of the case. This unit is surplus from a large manufacturing plant in our area. And was used to test and repair their early tube type business band radios. These radios were very similar to early tube type Ham radios I have tested this unit and all functions seem to work. The calibration seems to be correct. This is a vintage type item. And the metal case has a hammertone type of finish that seems to attract grime ... morein the nooks and crannies. The case could use a good cleaning, as it has sat on a workbench unused for many years. One knob is a replacement item It is mounted in a STRONG METAL- CARRY CASE. This unit was manufactured in the USA when the country still made high quality test equipment. As opposed the the newer lower quality items now made in China. Heathkit C-3 Condenser (Capacitor) Checker, for restoration
Heathkit C-3 Condenser Checker. Ca. 1959. Powers on and has correct DC voltages but no further testing, needs restoration. The 1629 Magic eye tube has green glow. A previous owner added a fuse holder on rear panel and power transformer appears to have been replaced. Or worked on. Transformer does have the correct 54-7 part number and appears to be working fine. All switches functional. Aluminum case is dirty. Some paint peeling. Front panel is very dirty, some paint wear on edges. Original cabinet feet and fastening screws are in place. Buyer should expect to test/replace some resistors and capacitors in order to return to proper working order. Sold as-is. For repair/restoration. Complete original manual is included.
