EICO 950 Capacitor Tester Refurbished. Working with Manual
Here is a vintage EICO Capacitor tester that measures Capacitance. Resistance and Capacitor leakage. It also has a ratio scale for comparing unknown components to known value like components. It has been gone through and all out of spec parts have been replaced. The old paper precision capacitors have been replaced with new ones for the measurement scales. Out of spec resistors have been replaced. The original weak 6X5 rectifier tube was replaced with a strong one. The Eye tube is nice and bright as can be seen in the flash photos. The voltage adjustment pot has been replaced with a NOS unit. The HV winding on the original transformer was reading low so an additional transformer has been installed to supply the HV for leakage tests. The power cord has been replaced. The case is in excellent shape with virtually no corrosion, as can be seen ... morein the photos. Someone in the past added a wood cleat to wrap the power cord around. Someone in the past also had added 2 pin jacks above the test binding posts. I replaced those with new Red and Black 5-way binding posts to make it easy to plug test leads into. These are in parallel with the original binding posts so both sets are active. The pictures show measuring the value of 2 capacitors. The first one is a.022 mfd that measures.0215 mfd with a Sencore LCR meter. The second is a 10 mfd electrolytic that measures 9.5 mfd on the Sencore meter. The last photo shows the voltage reading during a leakage test with the voltage control turned to max. Resistance measurements tave been tested and are also withing tolerance but I imagine a DMM would be better for common resistance measurements. The advantage of this unit is that it can measure up to 500 megohms. A copy of the 950 manual is also included that was downloaded of the internet and printed. More from my husbands garage. This No Reserve Auction is for a Vintage Eico model 488 Electronic Switch. This unit will allow you to view two separate patterns at the same time on a single trace scope. Similar to using a dual trace scope. This unit has been stored for at lease 25 years, and I have no way of testing it. It does light up when I plugged it in and the tubes lit up as well. My friend said not to leave it turned on as it should be brought up to voltage slowly on a variac. I don't know anything about these things as they were my husbands. Look at the photos as they are a big part of the description. There is some rust on the top of the unit and the handle is missing. But the inside looks very clean. My friend said it looks either factory wired or built by a pro. It is worth far more than the opening price just for the tubes ... moreand parts! The cosmetics are very good with only a hint of surface rust on the bottom. The power cord is in good condition. The internal capacitors have been replaced and the unit meets original specifications. The photos show testing a 20 mfd/500 Volt electrolytic for value and leakage and also tesing a.1mfd sprague for value. The accuracy is excellent. This will be well packaged for safe arrival. Very nice condition Eico Model 950. This is one of the later versions. Not the 950A or 950B. As you probably know these are invaluable for checking high voltage rated caps for leakage at rated voltage. Very useful in vintage tube equipment restoration and repair. This one powers up and the green eye tube is bright. No dents or rust on the unit. Still has the Eico factory quality control tag on the power cord.
