I just used this piece of gear to validate the accuracy of my Eico 950B capacitor/resistor comparator.and was really pleased to see how close they were to each other. Just turn the crank to the value on thel drum in the window and it will tell you what value is across the terminals. Operates very smooth.silky! You can tell this is a precision piece of gear. Guaranteed 100% operational. The calibration chart states accuracy to =/ 1% This is one of the pieces of gear from a local ham operators shop. No longer in use by the operator. Heathkit C-3 Condenser Checker. This is a great economical tester for finding leaky capacitors. The internal circuit has been checked over and components replaced as needed to bring it into proper functioning condition, switches and controls have been flushed with a non-lubricating contact cleaner and the tester is working as it should. The 1629 eye tube is good but not as bright as a new tube would be, the white spots are just glare from the room lighting. While these are not known for their accuracy in reading capacitor values test readings are within 10-15% of a known value, where this does shine is in its ability to find leaky capacitors up to 450 volt. Several known capacitors have been checked and it does find the leaky ones and shows the good capacitors as good. I did test a known good capacitor and a resistor and values read on the tester were very close to the actual value of the components. The unit has not been calibrated nor checked for accuracy. Today we have a- GENTLY USED- HEATHKIT- Model C-3- LABORATORY- CONDENSER CHECKER up for auction. This high quality TEST UNIT comes with a METAL CASE. It measures 10 inches by 7 inches high and is 5 inches deep. It has rubber feet on the bottom of the case. This unit is surplus from a large manufacturing plant in our area. And was used to test and repair their early tube type business band radios. These radios were very similar to early tube type Ham radios I have tested this unit and all functions seem to work. The calibration seems to be correct. This is a vintage type item. And the metal case has a hammertone type of finish that seems to attract grime ... morein the nooks and crannies. The case could use a good cleaning, as it has sat on a workbench unused for many years. One knob is a replacement item It is mounted in a STRONG METAL- CARRY CASE. This unit was manufactured in the USA when the country still made high quality test equipment. As opposed the the newer lower quality items now made in China. It is a very heavy duty well built unit, there is not any plastic in this item. Shipping for this item is $15.95 for all areas of North America except CANADA which is $20.00. Heathkit C-3 Condenser Checker. Ca. 1959. Powers on and has correct DC voltages but no further testing, needs restoration. The 1629 Magic eye tube has green glow. A previous owner added a fuse holder on rear panel and power transformer appears to have been replaced. Or worked on. Transformer does have the correct 54-7 part number and appears to be working fine. All switches functional. Aluminum case is dirty. Some paint peeling. Front panel is very dirty, some paint wear on edges. Original cabinet feet and fastening screws are in place. Buyer should expect to test/replace some resistors and capacitors in order to return to proper working order. Sold as-is. For repair/restoration. Complete original manual is included.
