Vtg HICKOK 209A VTVM Vacuum Tube Voltmeter Capacitor Tester METER Capacitance
Up for auction is a vintage Hickok model 209A VTVM and with 7 capacitance ranges. In“for restoration” condition. It powers up, both the center zero and‘end’ zero functions work fine, measures 9 volts DC as 11 volts on all DC volt ranges, and Ohms also works but inaccurate readings- so this Hickok needs some attention, but is a great start to a restoration project. Very large meter, the glass window itself is 6” X 8” and meter needle moves smoothly and evenly throughout entire range. Nice eBay find for the radio restoration project this summer. A VINTAGE Heathkit Capacitor and Resistor Tester WORKS! New cord as the original was badly deteriorated. These are used to"test/verify" a rating for a capacitor or a resistor is of the proper rating. I have another one(EICO 950) that I use frequently and they are very handy to test radio circuit components. The unit is in very good condition and only minor surface imperfections which come from normal use and age. Components tested: a 15K ohm resistor(rang up right on value) A.1 paper capacitor(rang up slightly off value) and a 47mfd electrolytic capacitor(rang up slightly off value) Test leads not included but readily available. Here is a special cap checker. The Electronics Measurements Corporation model 801 resistance capacitance bridge. Special because it has IN circuit test functions that check for open, short, and intermittent condition! And it has a ratio measurement function to compare a known resistor, choke, coil, transformer, speaker, or condenser to an unknown therefore finding the unknown value. Most unusual and versatile. Also has your normal bridge and leakage testing out of circuit. Also has power factor testing. A measure of power loss in the cap do to it's internal resistance. I opened it(no stripped screws or threads) Cleaned it(just dust, no bugs) then warmed it slowly on a variac over hours. Hooked an electrolytic to it and used the bridge function to confirm the caps' rating. the eye was fuzzier at the edges than in the pics of the leakage ... moretest but it was readable and gave the correct value of the cap. I then proceded to the leakage test. I liked using the variable voltage control and watched the eye tube narrow a bit as the voltage was increased to 450V then quickly rebound to max opening signaling a good cap. This tester is working correctly and gave good results. It may benefit from a recap job itself but seems to be ok as is. No leads included but it does accept either bare end wire or banana plug as input. I'm including a reprint of the original manual and schematic that describes all the testing procedures very clearly. EICO 950 Capacitor Tester Refurbished. Working with Manual
Here is a vintage EICO Capacitor tester that measures Capacitance. Resistance and Capacitor leakage. It also has a ratio scale for comparing unknown components to known value like components. It has been gone through and all out of spec parts have been replaced. The old paper precision capacitors have been replaced with new ones for the measurement scales. Out of spec resistors have been replaced. The original weak 6X5 rectifier tube was replaced with a strong one. The Eye tube is nice and bright as can be seen in the flash photos. The voltage adjustment pot has been replaced with a NOS unit. The HV winding on the original transformer was reading low so an additional transformer has been installed to supply the HV for leakage tests. The power cord has been replaced. The case is in excellent shape with virtually no corrosion, as can be seen ... morein the photos. Someone in the past added a wood cleat to wrap the power cord around. Someone in the past also had added 2 pin jacks above the test binding posts. I replaced those with new Red and Black 5-way binding posts to make it easy to plug test leads into. These are in parallel with the original binding posts so both sets are active. The pictures show measuring the value of 2 capacitors. The first one is a.022 mfd that measures.0215 mfd with a Sencore LCR meter. The second is a 10 mfd electrolytic that measures 9.5 mfd on the Sencore meter. The last photo shows the voltage reading during a leakage test with the voltage control turned to max. Resistance measurements tave been tested and are also withing tolerance but I imagine a DMM would be better for common resistance measurements. The advantage of this unit is that it can measure up to 500 megohms. A copy of the 950 manual is also included that was downloaded of the internet and printed. The Heathkit IT-22 Capacitor Tester is an instrument that allows the user to check capacitors without removing them from the circuit or. Of course, removed from the circuit. It will disclose open, shorted, or intermittent capacitors and, with just a little bit experience, permits the evaluation of a possible leak in the capacitor tested. So, it is a useful instrument for"taking a look" on vintage equipment. The IT-22 is the CT-1 successor(same instrument with different appearance) This instrument is easy to use and it is essential in order to verify the in-circuit condition of old paper capacitors which are present in 40's. 50's, and 60's radio and audio equipment. Using the IT-22. A five-position switch is employed. Center is"AC OFF" At left is"AC ON- CHECK" for"SHORT" with its"TEST" ... moreposition and at right are the same positions for the"OPEN" test. The switch is spring loaded in the"TEST" position so as soon as you let go it springs back to return to the"CHECK" position. This switch action removes any voltage stored across the capacitor during the test. The operation of the IT-22 is simple but sometimes confusing because when the eye tube closes or remains closed. The test is"OK" but it reflects a negative condition(NO SHORT circuit, NO OPEN circuit) Before testing. However, make sure the power is off in the equipment being tested. Switch to"OPEN CHECK" or"SHORT CHECK" position(choose whichever test you want to put in operation first) and allow the instrument time to warm up. Clip the test leads across the capacitor to be checked. Then switch to"TEST" position. You are bidding on a refurbished working Sprague Tel-Ohmike Model TO-5 capacitor analyzer. Sprague Tel-Ohmikes have been called. the Cadillacs of capacitor testers. Built by one of the leading American manufacturers of capacitors, the TO-5 was next to last in Sprague's series of Tel-Omike instruments and one of the best. Sprague designed this equipment to test all kinds of capacitors from the very smallest to the very largest and to precisely measure operating characteristics such as leakage. A TO-5 can also be used to"reform" old capacitors safely and to test insulation and other resistances. Unlike cheap contemporary pocket capacitor checkers. The TO-5 doesn't just tell you the value of a capacitor. It also tells you how good that capacitor is. This is especially important for electrolytic capacitors. Where things like ... morepower factor and current leakage are often more important than the actual capacitance value in microFarads. And the TO-5 can also accurately test very low values of capacitance. This particular TO-5 is serial OB82227. It was in a sorry state when I got it. The paint was peeling from the metal cabinet and it didn't work at all. I pulled the metal cabinet. Wire brushed it, and repainted it. I also cleaned up the front panel as much as I could without ruining the markings. Inside I found a broken 6C4 tube and a very dim"magic eye" tube. I replaced both of these with new-old-stock tubes. I also found that the filter capacitors were both bad(you can see how leaky one of them was in the last photo) I replaced these with new electrolytics of the same value. I also found four bad paper capacitors and replaced these with new ones. And I replaced two out of tolerance resistors. You can see these repairs in the two photos of the chassis. After replacing these parts I tested the TO-5 on both good and bad capacitors: Photos 5 and 6 show a new 80mfd. 160 volt electrolytic being tested. Century CT-1 Capacitor tester and Seco FB-4 Flyback tester. Both are in as-found condition. I tested the CT-1 and find it to be working perfectly. With a very bright 6AF6 eye tube. The photos below show the CT-1 testing both an old/leaky 0.05uf wax capacitor. And a new 0.05uf high quality capacitor. Note the dial on the leaky 0.05uf clearly shows it is bad compared to the good 0.047uf capacitor(eye tube is max open in both cases) The working condition of the FB-4 flyback tester is unknown. Up for sale is a very nice Solar model CE capacitor EXAM-ETER analyzer tester. I have done a restoration on this and it is excellent condition. It really only needed a good cleaning and touch up of some very very minor paint imperfections. This tester dates from the late 1930's to the early 1940's but you would never know it by looking at it. As you can see the chrome bezel is excellent condition(it was polished to a mirror shine) as is the face plate, scratch free glass meter lens and housing. The leather caring handle was a little dry so I removed it and treated it with Neatsfoot Oil so it is nice and pliable and should last another several decades. The only thing that is ... morenot original in this is the brand new 3 pin grounded power cord that I just installed, the chassis is now grounded to keep you safe. All three tubes were removed and tested on a mutual conductance tube tester and tested as new. Judging by the condition of this I seriously doubt it was ever used, the tubes sure don't show any signs of being used since they all tested in brand new condition. All rotary controls, potentiometers and switch's have been cleaned with Caig DeoxIt and then treated with Caig Deoxit Shield. Pictured is a 80uF 450 volt Sprague Atom capacitor being tested. If you look in the background at the panel meter you will see it showing 450 volts just as the meter on the tester does, also pictured is the capacitor leakage at.03mA after 4 hours of reforming it with this tester. Also pictured is the capacitance measurement of a little over 80uF with the meter nulled. A full instruction manual with schematic is included with the tester. I seriously doubt you are going to find another one of these in such nice condition, I just don't need it, I already have 9 other ones I use on a regular basis for testing and reforming. HEATHKIT C-3 CONDENSER CHECKER CAPACITOR & LEAKAGE TESTER - TESTED & SERVICED
Heathkit C-3 Condenser Checker. This is a great economical tester for finding leaky capacitors. The internal circuit has been checked over and components replaced as needed to bring it into proper functioning condition, switches and controls have been flushed with a non-lubricating contact cleaner and the tester is working as it should. The 1629 eye tube is good but not as bright as a new tube would be, the white spots are just glare from the room lighting. While these are not known for their accuracy in reading capacitor values test readings are within 10-15% of a known value, where this does shine is in its ability to find leaky capacitors up to 450 volt. Several known capacitors have been checked and it does find the leaky ones and shows the good capacitors as good. PACO C-20 resistance capacity ratio bridge - LCR capacitor tester repair/parts
This auction is for a vintage PACO resistance capacitance ratio bridge tester. It is a model C-20 made probably in the 1950s with an early sn 3793. I put power on it and a small resistor in the power supply started to smoke so shut it off except to take a photo of the eagle green eye tube. It has 2 tubes a Syl 6x5 and a Pen rad 1629 that works. Heathkit C-2 Condenser Checker. This is a great economical tester for finding leaky capacitors. The internal circuit has been checked over and components replaced as needed to bring it into proper functioning condition, switches and controls have been flushed with a non-lubricating contact cleaner and the tester is working as it should. The eye tube is good but not as bright as a new tube would be. While these are not known for their accuracy in reading capacitor values test readings were very close to a known value- this one is better than most I've seen, where this does shine is in its ability to find leaky capacitors up to 500 volt. Several known capacitors have been checked and it does find the leaky ones and shows the good capacitors as good. Case shows moderate wear- stains, scuff, scratches, some rust spots and paint loss on the ... moretop, good power cord. Don't forget to check out my other items. Test Button Hold Down for Sencore LC102 Capacitor Tester Easy Reform Capacitors
The LC102 is a great cap tester and since it can apply high voltage and monitor current. It's great for reforming capscitors. However, you have to keep pressing the Leakage button the whole time and this can get old after a minute or two. Sencore originally supplied a little spring loaded device to hold the button in for you. But those are almost all gone from the planet. I came up with a nicely working substitute. This is very smooth on both ends so it will not scratch your handle or the button. You just put it in place and turn the center while holding the end. It will expand in length and push in your button! This really works great. It stays in place easily and removes super easily too.
