VINTAGE STERLING PUFFY HEART CHARM - Repousse WWII Army Air Corp with Enamel
This vintage sterling puffy heart charm is up for auction. I believe this heart charm is from the 1940s. The repousse design on the front is the symbol for the WWII Army Air Corps. What makes this one a bit unusual is that there is red translucent enamel on the propeller at the top of the heart. There are white spots on my photos. But this is camera flash, not an imperfection. This heart is marked Sterling on the back. There is no engraving on the back of this heart. The back of the heart is in fair condition, with a pushed in area on the back(see photo) The heart measures approximately 5/8" in size. I am not an expert- just a collector trying to support my own habit! There may be tiny scratches and imperfections that are hard to see without magnification. Back case is blank with a small triangle with AC171 inside it. Timer is 15 jewels. Timer looks great! Pocket watch is hand winding. I have wound the timer and it runs. Grover C. Frederick, Battery C, 534th Sep.C.A. BN. AA sent to Mrs. Earl Keesee of Granby, MO dated from 1942 through 1944. Most all of the letters are still inside thier envelopes. Some have been copied smaller through the War and Navy Dept V-Mail service and passed through inspections by Army Examiner. This WWII soldier was stationed in Fort Bliss Texas. Was also in New York, NY, North Africa, Italy and Mexico( or at least he traveled to some of these places) He was possibly on board a battleship. There is a postcard included from a WW. Garner to Mrs. Sarah B. GArner of Mt. Vernon, RI stating he was on US Battleship Montana. Don't know what his ... morerelationship is to Grover Frederick. Seems like Grover wrote to his mother and brother during his time at war. But we really are not sure of the relationship to the person/s to whom he was writing as the last names are different. His hand writing is difficult to read due to his penmanship and spelling. Possibly under-educated as his spelling and grammer are exceptionally bad. Interesting glimpse into the life of a soldier during WWII though not much of the war seems to be mentioned. Can't tell for sure as the writing is difficulit to read and there are sooooooooo many pieces. Various wear. Discoloration due to age. Envelopes have a torn edge, most letters still inside envelopes and in good condition. The first of those items I am listing is this nice pocket pen light that was probably used to read maps in a B-17 Bomber at night. This light has a white light setting and a red light setting It is 6" long and 5/8" diameter It lights up intermittently. Each pin has the regal AMERICAN EAGLE FIGURE standing on an ANCHOR with 3 CANNON BALLS underneath. Surrounded by STARS and outlined in braided rope. They are really beautiful!
