This is a very nice Leitz objective designed for use with their bright-field/ darkfield illuminators that accept 30mm diameter threaded lenses. These illuminators included the MM-5 and MM-6 metallographs(the MM-5 requires special change rings for the 30mm thread) and the darkfield illuminators that fit the Ortholux I(Metallux I) Ortholux 2(Metallux 2) and Orthoplan(Metalloplan) microscopes. The Ortholux II illuminators will also fit the Diavert(Epivert) microscopes. These objectives will not work with later style Modulopak illuminators– the thread is incompatible and the design of the darkfield annular illumination path differs. Nicolet Instruments Corp Reflecting Microscope Objective (Near IR to Near UV)

Mirrors are used for all of the imaging elements- there are no refractive components. As a consequence the objective is largely free of chromatic aberrations over a large spectral range. The objective is suitable for work from the near UV well into the IR region. It appears that the reflecting elements are silver(aluminum coating? I could not see any blemishes in the coatings. The aperture of the objective is very small(only about 5mm diameter) so the secondary mirror is minute. The initial magnification must be quite high- probably in the range of 50x to 75x. Unfortunately there is no nomenclature anywhere on the lens. It is probably intended for use on an IR imaging microscope of some sort. There appears to be some sort of right-angle mirror in the slot that occludes one half of the imaging elements. The port is either for a vertical illuminator or for some sort of detector. There is a thread in the anodized hub visible through the bore in the chrome shroud. The objective appears to be in perfect condition. I could only see one half of the mirror system.
