An imposing example of Leitz engineering from circa 1951. The microscope stands 17 ½" tall to the top of the trinocular eyepiece. And 12" deep without the light attached. It is signed"Ernst Leitz, Wetzler" in two places: on the base and on the head. The microscope was made to operate in both EPI Brightfield and Transmitted Light modes. The microscope is 12” to 13” tall x 6-1/2” long x 5” wide. The body tube is marked“Ernst Leitz Wetzlar No 254119. The arm is marked“E. Leitz Wetzlar Germany. The lenses are all marked individually. The stage clamps are missing. One of the eyepiece lenses is cracked. There is obvious wear such as rust and corrosion. There is flaking to the paint of the arm and base. A real reference in the field of scientific and optic research material and in good condition and working order. The microscope mounts a three-lens revolving nosepiece and comes with a solid wooden case. The article is in good condition: the bird-claw foot shows off a nice black-enameled finish that looks shiny and even, being very well preserved. The brass component parts that make up the top part of the microscope are also in good condition and keep the original transparent finish, showing only slight signs of the trace of time that provide the piece with authenticity.
