Objectives& Case Germany Vintage Ca. 1955 Measurements: Microscope is approx. 12 ½” tall with base 6 ¾”x 4 ¾” Wooden case is 13 ½” x 8 7/8” x 6 ¾” Ernst Leitz Wetzlar Eyepieces include: 1– 6X and 1– 12X. The 3 Ernst Leitz Wetzlar Objectives include: 1- 3; 1– 6L; 1- 1/12 OEL Combined Weight in Case: 16.5 lbs. 7.485 kg) +++++ From the estate of a local medical doctor. This microscope set likely dates to the mid-1950’s, and it looks great! No cracks. Dings, dents or repairs showing anywhere on the microscope. All dials work as they should. Mirror is clear and in perfect shape. I am not familiar with the proper usage of this instrument but was able to focus it clearly under the 3x objective and suspect the others work fine. Inside the case was a Bausch& Lomb ... morelight for the microscope: it works fine but appears to be much older than the microscope and could use a new wire cord. Also inside the case were two small bottles of Immersion Oil and three empty plastic cases for the objectives: one of these cases is broken. There were two round. Plastic filters in an envelope, an instruction sheet, a sheet detailing the objectives and eyepieces, and a box of about 70 glass slides from Canadian Laboratory Supplies. The case was issued with the microscope and has“350503” on an inner edge. It is in excellent condition: no tears. Splits, cracks, loose parts or issues. Leather handle on top is solid, hinge and clasps work properly. Nameplate shows distributor of this microscope in Toronto, Ontario. Someone will enjoy owning this vintage microscope! A high-quality and nicely designed piece, is scientific surveying instrument made in Germany in 1929. The manufacturer’s name is engraved in different parts: it is the name of Ernst Leitz, Wetlzar. The microscope is very well preserved: the black enamel that covers the bird-claw foot is in excellent condition and the brass components are also fine. These components keep the original transparent lacquer finish that protects the delicate metal. Furthermore, the microscope comes in its original solid wooden case with the original key. As stated before. The microscope’s turret bears the engraved inscription ERNST LEITZ– WETZLAR together with the serial number Nº 26127. The manufacturer’s name can also be found in the objectives, ... morethe eyepiece and the device’s foot, in the point where this piece supports the turret. Ernst Leitz’s name is associated with the Optical Institute of Wetlzar, founded by Karl Kellner in 1849. Leitz entered the firm as an engineer in 1865 and in four years he took over the company, changing the original market name by his own. The company’s prestige grew rapidly and became a worldwide leader in the field of optic instruments and components manufacture. Leitz died in 1920 but the company kept on producing optic material under his son’s command. The firm is currently divided in four separate branches. The microscope we can see in these images is in good working order and keeps all the original component parts. It has a two-lens revolving nosepiece and comes with spare lenses. All of them signed by Leitz. The case where the instrument can be stored is made of light-colored solid wood, attractive and in good condition. It has fine dovetail joints and keeps the original silvery metal handle and also the operating lock and key.
